Is H1N1 Just A Power Grab?
Officials declared a heightened state of alert for Macomb County,Mi. This action streamlines the process for closing schools, shutting businesses, evacuating neighborhoods, temporarily reassigning county personnel and protecting volunteer staff from liability — should the need arise. Does this seem like a lot of power to give to one group or one person? This is what they can do in my town. What can they do in yours? Does this scare you more then the virus itself?

I think it's quite scary, and most definitely a power grab. Everything with Obama is a CRISIS, but only if it furthers his power grab. Too bad Afghanistan isn't a CRISIS in his mind. More soldiers are getting killed over there than there are people dying of the swine flu. But it's more important that Obama flies to Copenhagen, and plays some golf and a game of basketball. Don't forget he has to pick out his dog! And take Biden out for a walk and some burgers. This administration is a joke.
ReplyDeleteThe regular flu claims more lives than the swine flu could ever hope to.
No John, more people are dieing from the swine flu then are our soldiers dieing from wounds in Afghanistan. And your frivolous attack on Obama for his moments of respite from work is a joke itself. Even God rested on the seventh day!!
ReplyDeleteMike don't you think it's a little overboard what the local government is doing about this "Pandemic"? They have the power for closing schools, shutting businesses, evacuating neighborhoods, temporarily reassigning county personnel and protecting volunteer staff from liability. Shutting down businesses and evacuating neighborhoods??? I can only imagine them going into your home and telling you to get out because your neighbors are sick. Or closing down your business so you or your employees get paid that week. It sounds to me like they could make things worse not better with those kind of actions. What next another Katrina but this time it will be different? Yeh right. I'm not saying they will do those things but that it is scary knowing they have the power OVER us to do that. Don't forget this is local govt not the Feds. The Feds will come in after they start to shut down business' and taking people out of their homes by force. Remember the people on their rooftops after Katrina? The govt makes mistakes all the time and we need to prepare for that fact.
ReplyDeleteMike you should have a blog. I think you would do a great job. Let us know when and if you get one.
ReplyDeleteMike, you know just like everyone else that it is total crap how Obama is dragging his feet on Afghanistan. I know you equate Obama to God, it's right there in your comment, but give me a break. Obama had it all figured out before he was President. You know that Obama barely meets with McCrystal. ONE HALF HOUR on the Copenhagen tarmack? He gave David Letterman more time than that. To think that you, a vet yourself, defend this Presidents actions is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteYour buddy Bruce's favorite organization said that we could not afford 6 more months of McCain. Where are those a-holes now?
9/04/2009 USA Today: 477 people, 40 of whom were children, have died of H1N1 influenza, also called swine flu, since it emerged in the United States in April. Since April, 303 soldiers have been killed. Do you think that's an acceptable number of casualties from your god, Mike?
Here's something for you Chris. I wonder why we aren't gearing up to quarantine for the regular old flu?!
(Note, on a quick search this is what I found, from April 28, 2009)
Regular flu has killed thousands since January
Swine flu getting focus, but so far it's not deadly in United States
Since January, more than 13,000 have died of complications from seasonal flu
Worldwide annual death from the flu estimated between 250,000 and 500,000
About 9 out of 10 flu deaths are among people older than 65
By Doug Gross
CNN
(CNN) -- There had been no confirmed deaths in the United States related to swine flu as of Tuesday afternoon. But another virus had killed thousands of people since January and is expected to keep killing hundreds of people every week for the rest of the year.
People are nervous about swine flu, but the regular flu kills 36,000 people a year in the United States.
That one? The regular flu.
An outbreak of swine flu that is suspected in more than 150 deaths in Mexico and has sickened dozens of people in the United States and elsewhere has grabbed the attention of a nervous public and of medical officials worried the strain will continue to mutate and spread.
Experts are nervous that, as a new strain, the swine flu will be harder to stop because there aren't any vaccines to fight it.
But even if there are swine-flu deaths outside Mexico -- and medical experts say there very well may be -- the virus would have a long way to go to match the roughly 36,000 deaths that seasonal influenza causes in the United States each year.
"That happens on an annual basis," Dr. Brian Currie said Tuesday. Currie is vice president and medical director at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York.
Since January, more than 13,000 people have died of complications from seasonal flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's weekly report on the causes of death in the nation.
No fewer than 800 flu-related deaths were reported in any week between January 1 and April 18, the most recent week for which figures were available.
The report looks at deaths in the 122 largest cities in the United States.
Mike, great to see you aren't ignoring me any more. Maybe you can get to work on answering the questions that your buddy Bruce refuses to answer.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most lively blog I've ever seen. All of you are great. I'll be on here for a while as you have a lot of great subjects.
ReplyDeleteI had the swine flu in the seventies with no vaccination so my body built up some immunity, the vaccine created then killed more than the flu itself. Depending on your age, some of you went through it then as well. Since that time I have never recieved (1) vaccination nor ever had the flu of any strain at all.
ReplyDeleteThank you LaGlass.Have fun on here.
ReplyDeleteThere is a post I think everyone should read. It is by Drew a "progressive Democrat". He sound really nice and level headed. He posted on the 'Are Woman "Whores" To Grayson?' post.
ReplyDeleteGuys - You all seem to have some paranoia about a subversive element to this swine flu preparation. I just think that given the history of previous swine flu outbreaks, and the current worry from the populace, our government from top down, is trying to make extraodinary efforts to plan for every contigency. Over concern - perhaps! I really hope that you can all say when this virus comes and goes - I told you so - no big deal!
ReplyDeleteAnd John, since we are into making perposterious claims and defamitory remarks - how about your god Glen Beck - what commandment is he issuing to you today?
Mike - I have posted several times this one little fact, and that is that I don't watch Beck. Don't listen to Rush either, I don't even know when or where he is on... I'm guessing it's when I'm at work. I don't even have cable. So.... not really sure how your "perposterious" (sic) claim and "defamitory" (sic) remark really applies?
ReplyDeleteCorrection Mike: I do watch Beck, on the YouTubes that Chris posts, like the one he posted today or maybe it was yesterday. I just watched it today, anyway. He makes a lot of sense. Did you watch it? I don't mind watching things from the liberal perspective. That's why I listen to NPR, etc. It's like that David Duke book (not to get off on the racist topic, not my point); how can you put something down that you haven't even read?
I gave props to Rachel Maddow once, after I watched her and she (weakly) went after Axelrod.... kinda.... but I did say it was great. And the video when she went after Obama for his policy on holding people indefinitely. Olbermann I probably wouldn't watch, because that guy is right along the lines of Brucie. He is just an ugly S.O.B., from what I HAVE seen, and I have seen quite a few bits of his performance. He's just too over-the-top, and really idiotic.
But I think it is sad how blindly you follow the Democrat dogma. Like Drew said, you guys won't even denounce a politician who calls a woman a whore! There should not even be a discussion about it! I don't understand it Mike. You know, for sure and certain, that if a Republican did that.... WHOA MOMMA! Right? You and Bruce were baiting a trap for Brian, because of a book review he gave saying that it's okay to read the book, that the liberals (like you two) would dismiss it out of hand, without even cracking the binding. You progressives, you like to think you are sooooo open-minded, but you are the most close-minded of them all.
Nice to know that you still aren't ignoring me Mikey. Feel free to answer my simple questions. It is still my belief that you are not completely unhinged like Bruce is, and I hope for an answer from you on those various questions.
Also, like Chris said somewhere, you should do a blog. Let us know if you do, I would sincerely (maybe) enjoy reading it, and would add it to my blogroll.
Oh, and they are spelled "preposterous" and "defamatory".
Mike - Regarding the powers given to local government for "emergencies":
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about the President having the power to take control of the internet? Do you not think that, overall, the federal government is expanding its power at a, seriously, exponential rate?
Remember, the Democrats will not be in power forever, no matter what Bruce tells you. Do you mind having a Republican in the position to take over all media and internet if he chooses to? Would you have trusted, say, George W. Bush to do what is "in your best interests"? I think we can safely say that's a big fat negative on that one good buddy. Because I sure wouldn't. I don't want anyone having all that power.
John - I was always the first to go down in a spelling bee - but you certainly don't have any problem reading me none the less.
ReplyDeleteJohn I am sick of listening to your rants. Go lick under your dogs tail you swine. I think you and Chris are evil hateful people. Bruce and vomamike are upstanding people for their service to the progressive movement. There needs to be more people like them on this blog to stop you animals from taking over. You are all racist and you hate poor people and the middle class. And the shit you said about the unions is bs. Go to hell all of you conservative rich Repuglickens. And take your bibles with you.
ReplyDeleteWhoa!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNameless one is that you?
Finally found yourself an identity eh?
George? Really now, you couldnt get more original than that?
I must be doing something wrong I didnt know you can actually LISTEN to the posts vs. reading them.
How do I do that? LMAO!!!!!
LOL Doug ,I believe it Georges' own voice he is referring to,you know like way back in grade school learning to pronounce words-read it out loud.
ReplyDeleteOh now I get it George. Re pug licken and go lick your dogs you know what. Funny and filled with hate. You are a true progressive. Thanks for useing a name "Nameless One".
ReplyDeleteBoy, talk about conspiracy theorists. Now you want to blame President Obama for overblowing the H1N1 epidemic?
ReplyDeleteYou guys are worse than the "Truthers."
No Bruce read the paper. The goivt has the power to dop these things. Are you that dence that you can't understand the Macom Daily? If they have that kind of power then they can abuss it. You guys were the ones crying nonsense fpr 8 yrs and now that it is in bloack and white and the Democrats are in charge then everything is AOK with you. We are looking at the FACTS. We know how Facts get in the way of your reality in Lala Liberal Land. Did you guys like the way the gov't handled Katrina? What if Katrina was a nation instead of 3 states? Has the govt changed that much since then? Lets use some common sense on all sides of this issue. What would you do if the local govt came and told you to leave your house? How would that make you feel? How did the people on their houses react to the govt when they came to save them? Some shot at the rescuers.
ReplyDeleteBruce - PBO's Chief of Staff Rahm himself said "never let a crisis go to waste". His own words. It doesn't matter to them if it is a "real" crisis or if they have to manufacture one. Just like Bush pushing through his "Patriot" Act. These people in power will use any little hiccup to further their power grab.
ReplyDeleteYou know as well as anyone that Health Care was not a crisis until Obama said it was. The real crisis, Afghanistan and the loss of lives over there, is a crisis that has been marginalized by the administration. Remember moveon.org said that we can't afford 6 more months of Iraq & Afghanistan. Their own words.
Now he has power to shut down all media, including the internet? Scary times, I don't care which party is in power, when the President can control so much.
John is right, these people are great at creating crisis and ignoring the real ones.
ReplyDeleteIf we dont do something now the earth as we know it will cease to exist because of global warming.
Pass the health care bill before the summer recess and especially before the people find out what is in it, the nation can no longer afford to wait.
Pass the trillions in new spending or the financial system will collapse and we all will be living on the streets.
Meanwhile lets sit on recommendations for afghanistan from our generals while American soldiers die for the last 2 months because Obama is still busy gathering information on the situation.
Lets keep running up trillions in unfunded obligations even though there are warnings of impending hyperinflation and the crash of the dollar.
Lets keeep attacking our economy and businesses with new taxes and regulations even though unemployment continues to spiral upward.
Yeah thats right to hell with those chicken littles and the naysayers.
People just need to quit watching FOX news and everything will be o.k.
John, Interestingly even Bruce doesn't like Olbermann. He told me he prefers Rachel to Keith.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anyone that like Keith O. And Rachel is too lesbian for me. Jackson is a great progressive leader.
ReplyDeleteI'll let everyone else fill in their own joke about how Mike is always the first one to go down... ick. I don't know why he felt compelled to tell ME about it!
ReplyDeleteLOL, just kidding Mike! I kid because I care!
Anonymous... who is Jackson?
ReplyDeleteI think Anon is talking about Alen,Michael or Jesse Jackson. But thoise are the only ones I can think of. I went salmon fishing with my oldest son. We didn't catch one fish but we had a blast They should be running in the rives but we didn't see one. We seen a lot of deer out there.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I do like Keith and I watch on a regular basis. Rachel is a less animated but she really gets the job done. I loved the interview she did with Tim Phillips from Americans for Prosperity. She really showed what kind of person he really is.
ReplyDeleteShe ran down the facts about AFP with him He didn't deny any of Rachel's facts, but didn't agree with her tone or tack, but she had the facts dead on.
The interview didn't go well for Phillips.
That's great Bruce. I assume you give Beck a fair shot and have watched him to see what he is about. Oh, wait, my bad, it's the conservatives that have an open mind. Liberals just regurgitate moveon.org talking points. Please tell me I am wrong.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to see if I can youtube the Maddow interview. Sounds riveting. Thanks for the suggestion.
ROFLMAO.... Alan Jackson, yeah, he is a great progressive leader!! LOL, that's a good one Chris. I would say Michael Jackson is a great start to any progressive leader.
ReplyDeleteShut up john. Moveon.org is a great org. The Democrats need to turn the lights out on these Republicans if you know what I mean. I'd be happy if a disease wiped them all off the planet. Our new government needs top start locking these people up.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have not watched Beck, except Youtube clips of his moronic act. Beck is just a clown. He has no redeeming value whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteCome on John Bruce doesn't watch Beck he just mocks like a parrot what moveon.org tells him to say about Beck. Why do you think these parrots attack Beck's person not what he says. Bruce it was asked of you before. WHAT DID BECK SAY THAT IS WRONG? He is funny but what did he say that wasn't true? We know the liberal game and we aren't playing. Answer the questions.
ReplyDeleteBruce, Beck has a value. He puts a light on all that is wrong with this admin. He got Van Jones fired. That is a redeeming value, Bruce.
ReplyDeleteI have watched Fox News for several years now and have watched Keith and Rachel on several occassions to get a different VIEW. If you dont think there a wee bit over the top then you have indeed been given that ole LIBERAL KOOL AID and apparently LIKE it!Beck is active in his VALUES but much easier to beleive than Keith O and Rachel. Beck actually has issues with Republican. Rachel and Keith O can find NOTHING wrong with Democratics. NOT Fair and Balanced and thats why FOX is watched by the MAJORITY of CITIZENS who just want the TRUTH, which to a LIB is like KRYTONITE to Superman!
ReplyDeletePELOSI side show regarding OBAMA Care was just that. Now when this BILL comes to the Floor for VOTE we will be able to see FIRST hand the PATRIOTS in CONGRESS for this BILL which will NEVER EVER not go TRILLIONS into DEBT and will as is the OBJECTIVE of this BILL eventually put PRIVATE SECTOR INSURANCE COMPANIES oyut of BUSINESS and we will indeed have GOVERNMENT CONTROLED HEALTH CARE which will join all other Priate Sector Comapanies that GOVERNMENT has its hands in!
One last LIBS Thought LIBS,Where are all those SHOVEL JOBS?
AL so nice to have you on the blog. Your views are always welcome and needed. Make sure you check out the other blogs. We can nwever be too informed when it comes to the radical takover of our free market and gov't.
