Should Marijuana Be Legalized Or Not?

  1. I tend to take the libertarian approach on this one. What gives the federal government the right to declare this illegal?

I don't think it would stop the violence, though. If government did legalize it, it would tax it so heavily, especially in places like California, that the trafficking would continue, because people would buy the bootleg stuff because it would be cheaper.

  2. I never thought of it that way. No one bootlegs booz because it's too hard to do. But anyone can grow a weed. Great point.

  3. Another problem would arise. Cigarettes are legal but increasingly, most recently here in MI illegal to smoke in most places.

So as people who smoke cigarettes declines so does the tax revenue which leads back to Silverfiddles point of black market (as is the case now) plus the dilema of just where (if legalized) you could smoke it.

    Maybe just casinos I guess?

  4. Right now in Macomb county they are trying to figure out what to do with the new medical marijuana laws. I was writen very open and now they have to figure out how to despence this newly legalized drug. I just don't think that drugs are a federal issue. It should be a states issue. I have no problem with Cali. making it legal but I'm not sure if it's right for Mich. But thats the points. It should be up to the voters of every state.
