Michelle Obama today faced a fresh wave of attacks over her lavish break in Spain with 40 friends, which could easily cost U.S. taxpayers a staggering £50,000 a day. The First Lady has been lambasted for her extravagance at a time when the economy is still struggling. One blogger went so far as to brand her a modern-day Marie Antoinette. And her critics will be further annoyed when they learn that the president's wife had a Spanish beach closed off today so that she, her daughter and their entourage could go for a swim. Spanish police cleared off a stretch of beach at the Villa Padierna Hotel in Marbella after the Obamas had finished a busy day of sightseeing. Police used palm trees and police tape to mark off the boundaries of a 100-yard expanse for the American delegation. On either side, onlookers gawked - and police occasionally stopped and searched sun lovers if they strayed too close to the private party. It is unclear whether the police presence was paid for by Spain - or whether a nasty invoice could be landing in the lap of the American taxpayer. The exact cost of the trip is unclear as Mrs Obama, 46, and her friends are footing personal expenses themselves - which is just as well. For a start, they will be paying for the 60 rooms booked at the 129-room Hotel Villa Padierna. With basic rooms starting around £380 each, the nightly bill will be no less than £22,800. Meals will also be picked up by the Obamas and friends.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents believe overwhelmingly that their department leadership has become so politicized as to compromise the effectiveness of ICE and the safety of American people. Their union has released a letter announcing its recent unanimous “vote of no confidence” in ICE agency heads, accusing them of “misleading the American public” regarding illegal immigration in order to further a pro-amnesty agenda. In June, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council — an AFL-CIO affiliate — and affiliated local councils cast a unanimous 259-0 vote of no confidence in ICE Director John Morton and Assistant Director Phyllis Coven. In a letter announcing the vote, the National Council criticized the directors for “misguided and reckless initiatives,” and said their leaders have “abandoned the Agency’s core mission of enforcing United States immigration laws and providing for public safety, and have instead directed their attention to campaigning for policies and programs related to amnesty.” Janice Kephart at the Center for Immigration Studies has the letter, which includes several biting indictments of ICE failures by ICE agents. For instance: Senior ICE leadership dedicates more time to campaigning for immigration reforms aimed at large scale amnesty legislation, than advising the American public and Federal lawmakers on the severity of the illegal immigration problem, and the need for more manpower and resources within the ICE ERO to address it. ICE ERO is currently overwhelmed by the massive criminal alien problem in the United States resulting in the large-scale release of criminals back into local communities. This is the real job of the federal government and they can't get it right. You better be ready for some hard times because the Democratic Party has "fundamentaly changed" our nation by dismantaling it first. Shame on the Democratic Party for what they have done to us!

Great post. You talk about "Tearing the Country apart" I say that the unions have to take a lot of the blame for that as well as Mr. Obama. The unions have a strangle-hold on the legislature in states like in New York, preventing Missouri from participating in the economic expansion that has taken place throughout the South. Why locate your business in New York, when you can find much more favorable conditions in Arkansas or Tennessee? But we'll all sleep better paying higher prices for goods and knowing that the union members aren't being taken advantage of! There are other reasons unions are a bad idea, too. Like the fact that by artificially raising wages beyond the value of the work done, you create/support a black market of cheap labor, which is currently being exploited by illegal immigrants and other "under the table" employment. Also, unions take away a person's ability to make his or her own employment decisions. If the union wants to strike, but the individual is happy with the current situation, s/he has to, as a union member, strike anyway. Likewise, if the individual is disgruntled, but the union is happy, the union will not support the individual in seeking individual gains.Bottom line: if you don't like your job, talk to your boss. If a compromise cannot be reached, quit and find another job. You as an individual are more disposable to a union than you are to a business who relies on your skill to produce its product.Back in the 40's and 50's the unions were a good thing, but they are outdated and should go away. We don't need them any longer, unless you are a Commie or a Lib! The problem is the accumulation of power that most probably offends the right. That being said, I am sure there are good, honest liberals somewhere, even if I can't find any. I fear many cannot see the Obama agenda for what it is.
It's the union but not the members fault. I have to say I was part of the problem in the past. But the uaw members are pushing away from the union leadership. Chris, have you thought about speaking to our members at one of our gatherings? We could use you to talk some sense into them.
I'm a legal American citizen and I must show my ID when: 1. Pulled over by the police. 2. Making purchases on my department store credit card. 3. When I show up for a doctor's appointment. 4. When filling out a credit card or loan application. 5. When applying for or renewing a driver's license or passport. 6. When applying for any kind of insurance. 7. When filling out college applications. 8. When donating blood. 9. When obtaining certain prescription drugs. 10. When making some debit purchases, especially if I'm out of state. 11. When collecting a boarding pass for airline or train travel. I'm sure there are more instances, but the point is that we citizens of the USA are required to prove who we are nearly every day!Why should people in this country illegally, be exempt!!!!!Why shouldn't we guard our borders as closely as every other country in the world does? Go ARIZONA !!!
'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of tax cheating clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without losing $26 billion of the taxpayers' money, much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'trust me the economy is getting better.' Better? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the Democrats out along with Obama!' You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Afghanistan , Iran is completing their nuclear bombs and missiles and nobody seems to know what to do. And the liberal press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you? I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.) Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with thumb up your butt and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down. On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand. We're immersed in a bloody war now with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. But our soldiers are dying daily. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the world, and it's getting worse every day! We've lost the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are going to skyrock again, and nobody in power has a lucid plan to open drilling to solve the problem. This country has the largest oil reserves in the WORLD, and we cannot drill for it because the politicians have been bought by the flea-hugging environmentalists. Our schools are in a complete disaster because of the teachers union. Our borders are like sieves and they want to give all illegals amnesty and free healthcare. The middle class is being squeezed to death every day. These are times that cry out for leadership. But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo? We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened. Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping the government will make it better for them. Now, that's just crazy. Deal with life.
Well Stated Anonymous Hopefully Out Rage Is Shown In The Up Coming Election If Not Then When?Build Mosque At Location Does What For Citizens? We Have Elected Politicans Backing The Construction. That Is Citizens Fault That Can Be Corrected. There Is NO Reason To Build Mosque At Location Other Than The Feel Good Political Correctness Crowd And Hopeful Their Nonsense Is Growing OLD! It Sure Is With Me. Surprized With Political Correctness We Dont Allow Mexico To Build Monument At The Alamo. Why Not Plenty Of Labor Coming Across The Border?
wow, interesting comments. I'd love to be there when whomever goes by the handle of local 2280 asks Vince to let a non-union salesman who opposes unions speak at one of our meetings. That would be funny.
Joe I Think Alot Of Union Members Are Begining To Beleive Union Bosses As Politicans Have Gotten Away From Their Purpose Which Is Representing Citizens.I Do Agree With You A Non Unnion Speaker At A Union Meeting Would At The Very Least Have to Have Go-Nads. But Then Again Might Surprize Some At Meeting Just Before Police Are Called.
Joe I'm not anti-union when it's done properly. The UAW like most unions have gotten greedy to the point that they are killing their hosts. That isn't good for the union members. You may want to ask the union why they are trying to unionize outside of the USA. Doesn't thast seem to be a conflict of interest Joe? Unless the unions interest is just the growth of the union and not the members. You've heard it many times at the factory about the union not being for the members interest. But for some of you angry unionist you think what's in the best interest to the unions is the best interst for it's members. But I think the invite might be a set up so I don't plan on it. I'm sure Vince and Vern would be happy to have me there.LOL
A union meeting is just that, for union members. That point outta the way it would be a waste of time anyhow just as much as it is for the membership. The ONLY people to get substantive floor time at a union meeting depending on the level are committee, local or national leaders NOT the members and certainly not a 'guest'.
I was a memeber of the UAW up until they closed my plant. I know better then to speak at any union meeting. But i have spoken to many union members at local parties for 400,2280 and 228. I've asked questions of the Democrats they backed in their elections and was asked to stop asking them. In fact the Romeo Tea Party has a lot of UAW members that are working hard to change the Ford UAW. And I know a lot of local 400 that found out how the union "cares" about their members. Union solidarity is a thing of the past. They have divided the union with a two tear pay scale and that will turn one group of union members against the other. It's a shame the uaw has seeked out foreign representation in other countries. Now it's just talk when they say they don't want those American jobs going over seas. Shame on the UAW and shame on the members that wont let their members speak freely to one another on the things that effect them.
AL, your right that they feel the unions have gotten away from representing their people. Even the most conservative guys in my shop are mad at Bob King for even bringing the concessions to us and reopening the contract. Most want the money they gave up in the first concessions back now that Ford is making money and giving salary bonus again. The anger at politics is not a big deal in the local, the majority of the anger is at leadership for not getting some of the concessions back and wondering how strong King will be at contract time. its not how you or the rest of the cons here think. Unlike Brian P. most cons i know voted against concessions.
Joe Profits,Consessions,Out Sourcing And Economy Are A Tough Fit. No Doubt Without Consessions Company Would Have Most Likely Gone Belly Up. I Dont Know If Wages Or Benifits Are What Drives Up The Cost Of Autos Here But More Than Likely The Latter.Politicans Will At Some Point Have To Deal With NAFTA Which Seems To Benifit Every Body But American Workers And Companies. I Am Surprized With Amount Of Money And Power UAW Has With This Regime They Have Not Made Head Way On This Matter. I Do Understand Union Is Attempting To Get Over Seas Labor Orgainized And How That Helps American UAW I Dunt Know.I Guess When Union Starts Talking ,Raises, That Economy Is Back But I Dont See That Yet Either.Economy, Jobs, Wages ,Union A Delicate Balance Now. Just Look At The PIGS In Europe. Without Common Sense We Will Also Become Europe. Entitlements /Union Contracts With Out Balance All Thats Left Is Bankruptsy And The Regime Would Be Hard Press To Bail Out Anybody Else Or Print More Money.
Joe it sounds like greed to me.
Joe the unions get profit sharing in your contract but you just want all the profites. All the time the union cries about greed they are the apitomy of greed.
When a uaw laborer does what a ceo does then they can make ceo money. When 28% of uaw workers can't read, we see this is nothing more then union greed. Greed is the enemy of the unions.
Chris, yes those greedy conservatives in the union. how dare they? Funny you rail on the unions, but then turn around and talk about how many republicans are in the union. So if the union is bad, then republicans too are bad. Anon, source your stats. till then your making shit up.
Al, ask yourself this. If the company is hiring 15 dollar an hour employees right now as we speak why aren't prices falling on vehicles? Do you think that the company will ever drop prices? By anything more than a couple thousand?
$15.00 Dollars A Hour Vs Zero Dollars A Hour.Joe Enlighten Me Did Union Ratifiy Contract Including $15.00 For New Hires. If So Case Closed. I Beleive Thats Called Bargining For Contract.Just Like States Joe Public Employee Contracts OKd By Politicans Cannot Be Paid. Majority Of States Close To Being Broke. Politicans/Unions Together Have Killed Their Golden Goose And All Thats Left Is Goose Crap. Taxpayers Cannot Be Expected To Pay Freight THEY Did Not Ratifity.Heres A Idea Why Not Go Through All Government Jobs One Agency At A Time Lets See If Theres Any Fat Joe. What Do Think Would Be Found? Private Sector Has Cash Flow Problems They Cut Back Or Go Bankrupt. Public Sector Goes To Politicians Who In Turn Take Tax Payers Money And Secure Their Voting Block. Thoses Days Are Near The End. Politicans Promising Public Sector Unions Much On Tax Payers Back Will Find It A Tuffer Go In Future.
Anybody KNOW Why Our State Department Is Sending The Muslium Cleric In Charge Of The New York Mosque To The Middle East On A Tour To Raise Money" 100 Million" For The Construction Of The Mosque At Tax Payers Expense? I Thought There Was That Seperation Of Church And State Thingy. Seem Our State Department Missed That Seperation Thingy Which Is Surprizing Cause They Are Always Touting It! Just Wondering What Our Tax Payers Dollars Are Being Spent On And In This Case WHY? Seems With Regime Citizens Be Damn First Arizona And Now New York? Just My Opinion.
Al, its OK, it's not separation of Mosque and State. The ACLU won't touch this because all the loony left are afraid of Islam.Sad, REALLY!
Mark I Do Agree 100% With Ya. Regime Is Just Anti Citizen. Question To The LIBS: How Come State Department Can Send This Guy To Middle East On Tax Payers Nickle BUT None Of The Regime Higherarchy Could Go To The Arizona Border To See Whats Occurring.
Joe there is a big difference in union members and the union. The union backs Democrats almost 100% of the time while the members are only Democrat 60%. See the difference Joe? I know it's hard to grasp common sense thinking Joe but try not to be such a union talking point 100% of the time. It makes you look like a thoughtless shill.
Great point AL and Mark
Please keep it clean and nice. Thank you for taking the time to post you thought. It means a lot to me that you do this.
