Can GM Recover With A Lie?
When GM first showed the world and investors in GM the new Volt they said it got 230 MPG. The EPA mileage rating for the Volt now stands at 93 mgp, significantly less than previous predictions. The Volt‘s rating comes just days after Nissan’s own electric vehicle, the Leaf, received an estimated 99 mpg rating.
This lie will come back to haunt GM when the investors of this stock sell. I know the unions are buying up the stock in hopes of pushing the value of the stock up. As more and more investors find out this information on how they have been manipulated we will start to see how the American people have been taken for a ride yet again. Let's just watch how this story starts to unravel. One thing an investor hates is a company that lies. All I know is this company has a lot of weight in our stock market. If GM and the unions get caught pushing up GM stock values then the market wont be a good place to keep your money. If the Republican Party was smart they would start looking into what stocks the UAW is buying as well as how GM got the MPG wrong by over 50%. Just remember the Democratic Party and the UAW are the ones in control of GM and we know what their M.O. is.

TSA Controversy a Union Ploy?
Remember when the progressive left complained non-stop about warrantless wiretaps and the Patriot Act? It seems they no longer fear government overreaches because the same people who were screaming are now cheering on the new TSA procedures. One possible reason? The TSA recently won the right to unionize, and the AFL-CIO is running to the defense of TSA agents who are getting lots of heat. Was this a ploy by the unions?
“Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”
This proverb offers an important piece of advice, especially for today’s uncertain times. Are you prepared? Is it a good idea to prepare or not? Here’s a useful guide on what you can do:
THINGS TO CONSIDER

THINGS TO CONSIDER
- No refrigeration, plan for emergency assuming no electricity.
- Be nutritious, there may be some more physical activity required (i.e. Blizzard requires more shoveling)
- Keep calorie count
- Recommend you start with 2-week supply of food
- Good no-cook food items
- Energy bars / breakfast bars
- Almonds
- Peanut butter
- Tuna packages
- Canned pasta
- Dried fruit / canned fruit
- Dry milk
- Instant coffee
- V-8 juice
- Plan around the way you already eat.
- Build around 3 categories of food
- Grocery store goods: often inexpensive, and it’s all familiar stuff. (i.e. mac & cheese)
- Freeze dried foods: lightweight and don’t take up much room; more expensive, but priced out per serving, it’s budget-friendly.
- Bulk dry food: rice, beans, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, cornmeal, wheat, dried milk, etc.; it will be the backbone of your food storage and last up to 20-30 years.
- Don’t stock up on it unless you know you like it.
- Look at ingredients. You don’t want something high in sodium or preservatives.
- Pay attention to shelf life. Take a look at package, can. Soup doesn’t need water and store this for a few years. Plastic bags and cardboard boxes – 1 year max.
- Easiest way to store is by using cleaned out 2-liter soda bottles. You can easily clean out with hot water, drop of soap. Rinse thoroughly. That type of plastic is safe for storage.
- Recommend 2-liter soda bottle per person, per day. For consumption and washing.
- If a situation where water is an issue, be sure to have stash of paper plates & freeze dried meals.
- If you can heat water, then at least you can enjoy a hot meal (i.e. mac & cheese, pasta, soup)
- 5 main enemies to storing food
- Temperature: ideal is 40 degrees – 72 degrees. For every 18 degrees above 72, food will lose it’s nutritional value by half.
- Humidity: Store food off the floor and away from outside walls.
- Pests: Keep food in air-tight containers; clean up food particles on the shelves or floor.
- Oxygen: Use oxygen absorbers, rotate food, vacuum packing food to reduce oxidation.
- Light: Keep your pantry area dark. if food is in clear containers, keep them in labeled boxes with lids.
- Look for places where you can de-clutter (I have water bottles stored under my kids’ beds)
- You can store food in bin under a bed, clear out space in closet and designate a shelf.
- I recommend pieces of furniture that can double as storage (i.e. bench that opens up with a storage component – especially good for small homes).
- Store in a place that you won’t be dipping into constantly.
- Items like toilet paper can be bulky but can be stored in garage, attic, shed, etc. Moisture will affect it but temperature won’t.
- Non-food items, purposefully 1-2 weeks supply.
- Go through entire day and jot down every non-food item used – soap, shampoo, contact solution, etc. — and buy extras of those.
- Keep easily organized in buckets (i.e. dental, laundry, etc.)
- Give serious consideration to how your family will cope when power is down — communication, entertainment, pet care, keeping things cool in the home, etc.

May God Bless Your ThanksGiving
I'd like to thank God for all the abundant gifts He's given my family and I. I pray for all those around the world that aren't as rich as we are in this great nation. We are blessed by God too such a degree that I forget that all we need is food, water, shelter and His Word. I pray you all enjoy having your family to share and give thanks with. I pray that you all have a great cook preparing your meal. Don't forget to give them thanks as well. Take the time to look into each family members eyes and thank God they are in your life. Your children need to see you on your knees giving thanks to God for them. I'd like to thank all the readers and those that post. I'm enjoying learning the other views on politics and culture. Well I'm the one making dinner. I brewed a special beer and wine just for this day. My sons made the two pumpkin and one apple pie yesterday. I can't wait to try them. God bless you all and keep the politics away from the table. A drumstick to the head can do some real damage. LOL

Preparing For Revolution: Progressive Media Knows Food Crisis And Violence Are Coming
The liberals riot when they don't get what they want. What do you think will happen when the money runs out and things start being taken away? Or what if the money of ours that the government is giving them doesn't pay for all their needs and wants(inflation)? Have you seen the price of food lately? Gas?Gold? Silver? Cotton? Natural gas? Hows your 401K doing? Pension funds? The anarchist are pushing the far left into an aggressive revolution and the left might do it once things start getting rougher not better like they thought. But the left always seem ready for a riot. Maybe the left are the anarchist? The last time we had an uncontrolled liberal Democrat as President it was Carter. Do you remember what he did to gas and interest rates? If the liberals start to riot the cops should shoot pot at the crowd instead of tear gas. Those idiots will forget the riot ever happened and you wont hear a word out of them till the stuff is all smoked up. Odds are by that time they will have forgot what they were told to be pissed about. This ThanksGiving wake your family up to the rising prices and the value of the dollar. It's easier then talking politics and in the end they will all blame these Progressives.

Conservatives Think This Is Amazing And Beautiful. Liberals Think It's A Group Of Cells That Don't Have A Right To Life.
A French couple recently captured their unborn baby doing what appears to be somersaults in its mother’s stomach. You can see the dough-like movement below:
The left still think babies don't have a right to life in America. But sea turtle eggs should be protected at any cost. And the left wonder why most people think they are bass ackwards.
Why Is The World Coming Apart Under The Democratic Party?
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea fired artillery barrages onto a South Korean island near their disputed border Tuesday, setting buildings alight and prompting South Korea to return fire and scramble fighter jets. At least one South Korean marine was killed and 13 wounded, the military said.
The skirmish came amid high tension over North Korea’s claim that it has a new uranium enrichment facility and just six weeks after North Korean leader Kim Jong Il unveiled his youngest son Kim Jong Un as his heir apparent.
One South Korean marine was killed, three were seriously wounded and 10 slightly wounded, a Joint Chiefs of Staff official said.
YTN TV said several houses were on fire and shells were still falling on Yeonpyeong island, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) west of the coast. The station broadcast pictures of thick columns of black smoke rising from the island, which has a population of 1,200 to 1,300.
President Lee Myung-bak ordered officials to “sternly respond” to North Korea’s action but also called on officials to make sure that the “situation would not escalate,” according to a presidential official. He asked not to be identified, citing the issue’s sensitivity.
Lee was holding a security meeting in a presidential situation room, the official said.
In a message to North Korea’s armed forces, South Korea’s military urged the North to stop provocations and warned of strong measures unless the North stopped, another Joint Chiefs of Staff official said.
The JCS official said dozens of rounds of artillery landed on the island and in the sea. The official said South Korea fired back. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of JCS rules, said South Korea’s military is on alert. He could not confirm the reports of casualties.
Tensions between the two Koreas have remained high since the sinking in March of a South Korean warship in which 46 sailors died. Seoul blamed a North Korean torpedo, while Pyongyang has denied any responsibility.
North Korea’s actions “are illegal and a violation of the 1953 armistice agreement” that ended the Korean War, the JCS official said.
South Korea responded by firing K-9 155mm self-propelled howitzer, but the JCS official declined to say whether North Korean territory was hit by the South Korean artillery.
JCS said island residents are escaping to about 20 shelters in the island.

‘Exhausted’ Woman Who Pleaded With Obama for Hope…Loses Her Job
WASHINGTON (AP) — The woman who told President Barack Obama that she was “exhausted” from defending him and his economic policies and waiting for the change she expected after voting for him has another reason to be put out: She’s lost her job.
Velma Hart, the chief financial officer for Am Vets, a veteran services organization based in Maryland, said Monday in an interview with CNBC that she was laid off as part of the nonprofit’s effort to cut expenses.
“I want to focus on the positive and be optimistic,” said Hart, who lives in Upper Marlboro, Md. “And assume that somehow things will work out, that there‘s an opportunity out there with Velma’s name on it that’s right around the corner.”
Am Vets executive director Jim King told The Washington Post that the nonprofit was looking for ways to survive financially.
“It’s not anything she did,” King told the Post for a story that appeared online Monday. “She got bit by the same snake that has bit a lot of people. It was a move to cut our bottom line.”
In September, during a town hall-style meeting on the economy televised by CNBC, Hart told Obama: “Quite frankly, I’m exhausted. Exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the man for change I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now.”
Hart said that the recession had taken an enormous toll on her family and left her and her husband worried about their finances. “And quite frankly, Mr. President, I need you to answer honestly,” she said, “Is this my new reality?”
Obama responded, in part: “As I said before, times are tough for everybody right now. So I understand your frustration.” He went on to cite examples of administration policies that he argued were helping families cope financially.
Hart told CNBC that she still supports Obama and noted that the economy is improving, though she finds the prospect of unemployment “scary.”

Why Don't Liberals Have To Play By The Same Rules They Inforce?
Remember when the head of the Bergen County Education Association put out an email praying for the death of Chris Christie? Well after that email was sent out, the President of the Teachers Union offered an official apology and called the Governor's office to apologize. At that point Christie says that instead of taking the call, he decided to invite her to the Governor's office for a face to face apology. And that's when the awesomeness starts:
Why is it that unions and liberals as a whole feel they don't have to abide by the rules they enforce on us so readily? Chris Christie makes a valid point on unions not having a code of honor but are more then willing to enforce this code on the right. We have every right to expect the same of them as they expect of other. The unions will destroy themselves with this kind of double standard. It's a shame because the unions, when done right, can do a lot of good for workers.

Mich. City Begs Tax-Exempt Organizations for Donations to Cover Debt
Mount Clemens, Michigan sits just 25 miles Northeast of Detroit. Like its big sister, it has a problem: debt. Desperate, the city is now begging tax-exempt organizations to donate to its general fund, which covers fire services, streetlights, and roads.
Mount Clemens Mayor Barb Dempsey made the request in a letter to 35 such groups this week. According to the New York Times, Dempsey said the town of 17,000 has already made cuts, such as disbanding its police department. But still, it’s facing a budget deficit of $960,000 that she says will reach $1.5 million next year.
“As the County seat and land base of many religious properties, hospitals, schools, and non-profit charitable organizations, one of the most challenging dilemmas the City faces in trying to balance its budget each year is that 42% of the property in Mount Clemens is tax exempt,” Dempsey writes in the letter. “These properties receive the same services as the tax paying properties which places a tremendous burden upon the 58% of property owners that pay taxes.”
“The 42%,” the Times says, includes 26 churches, a hospital, and several schools. That’s taken its toll on the 4.2-square-mile city, which, as the letter says, is also the headquarters of Macomb County, the third largest in Michigan.
If all that property were not exempt, Dempsey told the Times, the properties would pay at least $1.2 million, enough to erase the deficit.
The letter hopes to make up for some of that lost revenue by asking, not telling. “We figured it can’t hurt to send out letters,” Dempsey told the Times. “If you don’t ask, you never know.” She’s hoping it works. Hamtramck, a Detroit suburb, just asked the state for permission to file for bankruptcy, something no Michigan government has ever done before.
For now, at least one group is stepping up to the collection plate: First Presbyterian Church of Mount Clemens. The church gave $1,000 five years ago when the city considered a similar request. Pending approval from the church board, it will do it again.
“If we can help the city in a time of need we definitely should do that,” First Presb. Rev. Bill Davis told the Times. “We need the city, and the city needs us. If we can help financially, I think that’s right.” Writen by Jonathon M. Seidl Here comes the begging for money my liberal city has spent. Soon they wont beg but they will demand that tax exemption go the way of the dinosaurs.

Why Is the TSA Strip Searching This Young Boy?
So what do make of the newest viral video purporting to show a young boy being stripped searched:
Lets get the facts straight first. Before the video started the boy went through a metal detector and didn’t set it off but was selected for a pat down. The boy was shy so the TSA couldn’t complete the full pat on the young boy. The father tried several times to just hold the boys arms out for the TSA agent but I guess it didn’t end up being enough for the guy. The enraged father pulled his son shirt off and gave it to the TSA agent to search, that's when this video begins.

Is this America any more? We aren't aloud to profile terrorists even though all the terrorist have been Muslim. But to be PC they strip down a young boy. If I remember correctly the left went nuts when we started the Patriot Act that aloud us to spy on terrorists phone conversations. Now that we have Democrats in power anything goes. I think that this is sick when the TSA tip toe around Muslims but have cart blanch with our children... It's time to stop this treatment of Americans and start profiling for real criminals. I don't blame the TSA agents for doing their job. But I do think that the government isn't above the law. My wife and I have made the decision to not fly until this treatment of Americans ends. If there is another attack on this country while our government is playing candy man with our children and our citizens, it will be the fault of our current leaders that have put the TSA's noses in our britches for no other reason then to be politically correct. It's only a matter of time before we see how the TSA has been trained to tread lightly with the Muslims. What do you think about the use of this power over We the people? Could this just be another political ploy to contol us? Or is this a rope-a-dope move by our politicians to divert our attention away from something else?

Today The Boys And I Went To River Of Glass To Make Christmas Gifts
Today the boys and I went to http://www.river-of-glass.com/ in Mt.Clemens,Michigan to blow glass Christmas bulbs. It was so much fun for my two sons. They both blew glass bulbs for their mom and grandparents. They also made a glass flower. These bulbs will be priceless for both the giver and the receivers. I took a lot of pictures to go with the gifts. The man that owns this company,Chris Winn, made the chandelier at Greektown Casino. He made this experience for my sons worth a million dollars. If you are in Mt.Clemens stop on by River Of Glass and make something for someone you love or just look at the art.

Frustrated Ann Coulter Loses it With Guest on Hannity Over TSA

We're Looking More Like Europe Every Day
After violence erupted Wednesday when a University of California committee began considering a tuition increase, on Thursday that committee approved the plan to raise student fees by 8 percent next fall while expanding financial aid to more students.“It is my belief that officers conducted themselves very well and showed great restraint under the circumstances,” UC Police Chief Pamela Roskowski told KGO.
Later Thursday, the full board is expected to approve the tuition hike, which follows a 32 percent increase this year. It's just a matter of time before the deep pocket Democrats "fix" this problem with tax payer money. The Democratic Party has no problem using our money to pay off their constituents. That's all they have been doing over the last 2 years so what do you expect?

OPEN SOCIETY: Soros Explains The Anti-Capitalist, Pro-Marxist Tactics He Uses to Fundamentally Transform Countries
This is the man that has his hand deeper the Democratic Party then any other person. He has many left wing organizations like Tide Foundation,MoveOn.org,Open Society...George Soros gives the money and the marching orders and the left wing sheeple do his bidding without a thought in their heads. The Democratic Party took these people into the party and now those same people are dragging down the Democratic Party. Maybe they should have picked better bedfellows. And they are the ones that say the Tea Partiers are dangerous. HAA HAA HAA.

TSA New Rules
An image captured in the Indianapolis International Airport suggests that while some parents are taking these new invasive procedures, some security professionals are getting a laugh out of it.
This picture shows a computer desktop’s image at one security checkpoint in Indianapolis. Here’s the desktop image:
The new TSA rules for pat downs and computer strip searches is causing a lot of uproar at the airport. We as a society need to figure out what is groping and what is frisking. These new machines that undress us in front of another person can and will cause distress among fliers. A traveler that filmed his pat down said something that was spot on. He said that if anyone other the the government touched him that way they would be arrested. I could also see that most religious people will have an issue with the methods being used to secure the airplane. I'm sure Muslims will have issue with putting their family through this kind of treatment. But we must not allow one religion or one group to be exempted from this kind of screening. But knowing the way the government acts with the Muslims, my kids and my mom and dad will get the full load treatment while they walk past. It's just a matter of time before a Muslim terrorist shoves some C4 up his crapper and blowes up a plan. The good news is that George Soros sold all his stock in ISO the company that makes the machines that TSA are using. Who would have figured that the friends of the Democratic Party had so much money to be made? All I know is that when I get patted down I'm asking for a women. You don't think that would bother my wife do you? This will be tested by passengers. And the first time someone blows something up the government will blame the people that protested these machines and pat downs. What do you think about these new TSA rules?

On Sunday November 14th, 2010, Jewish Voice for Peace a left wing activist group lead a protest in downtown Chicago against Israel and the United States. Some members of the organized protest did not even know how to explain the message of their signs, one of whom simply resorting to calling me a racist. Others accuse Israel of falsifying the video footage of weapons aboard the supposed humanitarian Gaza Flotila. One member of the group even voices a strong opposition to Israel’s right to exist and uses profane sexual slurs against Mrs. Netanyahu the wife of Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli PM. After further investigation into the group’s activities, they are also organizing an event to support another activist group known as Anarchists Against the Wall, and Socialist activist Noam Chomsky is a member of the Jewish Voice for Peace’s Advisory Board.
The left are showing more of who they really are. There are audios of some communist groups that are calling for the left to start "cracking their heads" talking about the Tea Partiers heads. And the leaders of the left are calling for civil unrest. And just like the left blamed the Tea Partiers for everything every person ever did we will hold the left to the same standard. If one liberals does anything bad they will all be held accountable. At first the left will cry like little female dogs but like us they will get used to it. Or maybe the weak left will crack under the pressure of living up to their own standards? Don't forget to laugh at these sad liberals. You know the ones. The peace protests that turn violent, the Mother Earth environmental protesters that leave the rally site a pig sty,the unions that pay people minimum wage without benefits to pass out tracks at the polls but demand high wages for themselves. You just got to laugh at these people and their warped ideology.
Soros Tells Progressives: Prepare to Bail on Obama
If Soros tells the Progressive zombies to do something they better do it! Pres.Obama has pissed off the left and he better heed Soros' warning to our president. Nudging is turning into pushing. The unions and moveon.org and all of Soros other left wing organizations will all come out saying the same thing as Soros. Just like a bunch of mindless zombies they will march with the Soros/moveon.org mantra in mind and little else with it. When will the liberals have a real grassroots movement? One that isn't pushed by Soros,MoveOn.org,Olbermann and Maddow first.

Palin: Inflation Is Coming
For all of you savers and retirees this inflation coming is going to make your life a heck of a lot harder. We know that the Fed is printing money faster then ever and now we are buying our own debt. There are positive effects to doing this. The positive side is our debts will be a lot easier to pay off. The problem is the money we pay off our debts with will be next to worthless. That might turn our friends that loaned the money too us turn against us. Just think what China will do when we pay our debt off that way. But China is playing their own games with currency values. But what about the retirees and the savers that want to retire sooner or later? Just look at the futures market. These commodities that we use every day are going through the roof. The government is making this happen on purpose and we need to take a moment and look at our future and who will it effect. If you want to have an idea what our food prices will be in the near future then look at the commodities futures market. If the price of corn keeps going up who is going to pay it in the food lines? When gas futures when up on speculation we paid $4 a gal. Can our retirees afford to eat when they only have so much money for food budget. This is nothing more then a "tax". A cruel tax at that. We are starting to see the effects of a wholey Democratic Party run country. The not so funny thing is that the Democrats are pointing at deflated house values as "proof" that there is no inflation. Thanks Democratic Party for making bad times much worse. What do you think is coming? Do you have a victory garden, store food like grandma used too? I know my grandparents stories of hard times well. They told me what they did to survive when food was hard to come by.

Tomorrow Is Opening Day For Deer Hunting In Michigan
Open Thread. Remember what hunters have done to this great natural country. They feed the hungry and give wildlife a place to live. The prey in turn put wild crafted food on the table. Think of it as saving a cow.

Where Are The New and Old Republicans On Obama's Debt Commission Suggestions?
A draft proposal by the deficit commission suggests curbing Social Security benefits and raising the retirement age.The co-chairmen of the panel appointed by President Obama to cut the U.S. deficit recommend raising the retirement age to 68. It is currently 67 years for retirees to receive full benefits. The panel leaders also propose reducing the annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. I have been waiting to hear from the Republican leaders and some of the newly elected Republicans on what Obama's debt commission has come up with. I know I wouldn't hear a word from the Democrats. But for the new conservative Republicans to say next to nothing on these finding is appalling. The Republicans better not fall back into the same rut that made most Republicans leave the party. The Republican Party was saved by the conservative Tea Party movement and we have expectations of them. If the Republican Party doesn't step it up and act like the conservatives they promised to be then we will have no problem kicking that party out of Washington just like they did to the Whig Party. I know I have low expectations of Obama and the Democratic Party but their reaction to these findings will give you a hint why. All I know is that SSI and Medicare are in a crash course to nowhere and the Democrats would rather have future Americans pay for it and never see it then make it a more realistic entitlement like it started out to be. We know the Democrats wont do anything about this failed entitlement, they've said so much. But the Republicans playing hid and seek is no different. The Republican Party better start taking on these tough issues now or they will be cast as being no different then Democrats. Washington can't keep hiding from these out of control entitlements. And playing politics with them wont work either. If the Democrats try and play games with SSI then the Republican Party needs to remind the American people of what party is cutting a half trillion $'s from Medicare.
Dem Senators Say Obama Has No Idea What He's Doing
It seems that many of the top Democrats in the United States Senate do not hold a very high opinion of their former colleague, and current President, Barack Obama.

Why Are The Left Calling For Violence?
The left wing media is doing a lot of inflammatory rhetoric lately. You don't think civil unrest is in their agenda do you? It's really starting to look like it. I'm sure the Progressives/Democrats will be able to hold it together as well as the Tea Partiers do. I think it's time to watch what the left wing is saying and doing. I've posted a lot of media inflaming the left to violence and revolution. Keep an eye on the left wing organizations and the MSM.

“THE MAN WHO BROKE THE BANK OF ENGLAND”
ANTI-SEMITISM
The other day, George Soros and his older brother Paul, an engineer turned investor-philanthropist, met in the offices of Soros Fund Management to discuss their father. The occasion was the English-language publication of Tivadar Soros’s wartime memoir, “Masquerade: Dancing Around Death in Nazi-Occupied Hungary,” which was first published in 1965 in Esperanto, one of six languages in which Soros pere was fluent.
“It was his nature, regardless of difficulties, to believe that one must behave like a human being and one must make the most of life,” Paul Soros said, explaining the charm and ebullience of his father, who, in the book, is described by his five-year-old son George as “a married bachelor,” and who, even when living semi-reclusively under an assumed Christian identity, never missed his daily swim. “I remember during the siege we went to the opera, because at a time when there was no food the opera still served very nice hors d’oeuvres and patisserie. Whether or not it was prudent, the idea was that you should make the most of your circumstances.”
George, who, like Paul, has inherited his father’s broad face, pointed out that Tivadar’s fondness for the comforts of bourgeois life was not accompanied by a docile bourgeois sensibility. “We didn’t preserve ordinariness,” George said. “He made us very conscious that these were extraordinary times and that the normal rules didn’t apply.” In the book, Tivadar writes that at one point young George was required by the authorities to deliver notices to certain Jews that they should report to the Rabbinical Seminary with blankets and food. “This was a profoundly important experience for me,” George said. “My father said, ‘You should go ahead and deliver them, but tell the people that if they report they will be deported.‘ The reply from one man was ’I am a law-abiding citizen. They can’t do anything to me.’ I told my father, and that was an occasion for a lecture that there are times when you have laws that are immoral, and if you obey them you perish.”
“Masquerade” contains a great deal of black social comedy; a running theme is Tivadar’s efforts to convince his recalcitrant mother-in-law that, all things considered, it really would be best if she stopped regarding the occupation as a personal insult. (”I refuse to go anywhere if the people don‘t know who I am and I have to pretend I’m somebody else all the time,” she said of his attempts to find a safe house for her.) Tivadar’s own ease with his assumed identity-he grew a mustache, and went by Elek Szabo-led him, one day during an air raid, to tell a neighbor in the shelter about the time he approached the podium on which Hitler was standing at the 1936 Winter Olympics, just to see how close he could get. “Hardly fifteen minutes had passed after my tale when there was suddenly a great commotion,” Tivadar wrote. “The shelter commander appeared, surrounded by several officers. . . . It transpired that the air-defense commander, in great excitement that there was someone present who had seen Hitler, had radioed headquarters and a group had come over right away to see this privileged person.”
Tivadar’s energies, though, were largely devoted to the extremely serious business of procuring papers to save relatives and friends from a new, unimaginable form of terror. “My father was ahead of the curve, because he recognized the moment the Germans came in that this was a different world and one had to act differently,” George said. He and Paul agreed that they still try to live by their father’s resourceful example. “The funny thing is that in character we probably both inherited a lot more from our mother,” George said.

SOROS AND PRESIDENT OBAMA
SPIEGEL: Your proposal would be dismissed on Wall Street as “big government.” Republicans might call it European-style “socialism.”
Soros: That is exactly what we need now. I am against market fundamentalism. I think this propaganda that government involvement is always bad has been very successful — but also very harmful to our society.
SPIEGEL: Would you advise the new president to say that publicly?
Soros: He has already spoken about changing the political discourse. I think it is better to have a government that wants to provide good government than a government that doesn’t believe in government.

SOROS: You see, for the last 25 years the world economy, the motor of the world economy that has been driving it was consumption by the American consumer who has been spending more than he has been saving, all right? Than he’s been producing. So that motor is now switched off. It’s finished. It’s run out of — can’t continue. You need a new motor. And we have a big problem. Global warming. It requires big investment. And that could be the motor of the world economy in the years to come…Instead of consuming, building an electricity grid, saving on energy, rewiring the houses, adjusting your lifestyle where energy has got to cost more until it you introduce those new things. So it will be painful. But at least we will survive and not cook.
MOYERS: You’re talking about this being the end of an era and needing to create a whole new paradigm for the economic model of the country, of the world, right?
GEORGE SOROS: Yes.

“THE MAN WHO BROKE THE BANK OF ENGLAND”
- “As September 15 wore on, George Soros’s confidence that Britain would pull the pound out of the ERM was growing. It had been Stanley Druckenmiller who had thought the time ripe for making a bet against the sterling. He talked to Soros about doing something. Soros gave him the green light but urged his head trader to bet an even larger sum than Druckenmiller had in mind. And so Druckenmiller, acting for Soros, sold $10 billion worth of sterling… The next morning at 7:00, the phone rang at Soros’s home. It was Stan Druckenmiller with news… While George Soros had slept, he racked a profit $958 million. When Soros’s gains from other positions he took during the ERM crisis were tallied, he racked up close to $2 billion… It was this bet, this single act of placing $10 billion on the fact that Britain would have to devalue the pound, that made George Soros world famous,” (SOROS THE UNAUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY, pgs 5-6).
- “He famously shorted the British pound in 1992, wagering $10 billion on a drop in its value. In a desperate bid to keep its currency afloat, the Bank of England tried to buy up pounds as fast as Soros could dump them. However, as more and more investors followed Soros’ lead and joined his efforts, the Bank of England eventually gave up. The British pound was devalued, launching a tsunami of financial turmoil from Tokyo to Rome. When it was over, millions of hardworking Britons confronted their diminished savings, while Soros counted his gains. He had personally made nearly $2 billion on the catastrophe,” (The Shadow Party, pg. 4).
- Soros has said of this event: “I had no platform, so I deliberately [did] the sterling thing to create a platform. Obviously people care about the man who made a lot of money…my influence has continued to grow and I do have access to,”(Time Magazine, Sept 1, 1997)
- In 1997, during the Asian financial crisis, the then Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir bin Mohamad, accused him of bringing down the Malaysian currency, the ringgit, through his trading activities. In Thailand he was branded an “economic war criminal” who “sucks the blood from the people”.

ANTI-SEMITISM
- In a 1998 nterview with Steve Kroft, Soros was asked if he felt guilty about confiscating property from Jews as a teenager. He responded, “No.”
- “I don’t deny the Jews their right to a national existence–but I don’t want to be part of it.”That experience notwithstanding, Soros has chosen to exclude Israel and Jewish causes, by and large, from his massive philanthropy-a decision that has caused comment among one of his colleagues in the financial community, particularly those who are strong supporters of Israel. In Hungary, Soros has been subject to anti-Semitic attacks. Referring to being a target, Soros, in his book “Underwriting Democracy,” wrote, “I am ready to stand up and be counted.” When I mentioned that rather suggestive line to Soros during one of several extended interviews with him, he responded quickly, “Right. It took me a long time.”
He continued, “My mother was quite anti-Semitic, and ashamed of being Jewish. Given the culture in which one lived, being Jewish was a clear-cut stigma, disadvantage, a handicap-and, therefore, there was always the desire to transcend it, to escape it.” He confirmed what someone had told me-that his family name had long ago been changed from Schwartz. “So the assimilationist Jews of Hungary had a deep sense of inferiority and it took me a long time to work through that,” he said, adding, however, that he succeeded in doing so many years ago… “I am escaping the particular. I think I am doing exactly that by espousing this universal concept”-of open society. “In other words, I don’t think that you can ever overcome anti-Semitism if you behave as a tribe… the only way you can overcome it is if you give up the tribalness.”
(Source: THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SOROS by CONNIE BRUC, The New Yorker, January 23, 1995,)
- “As I looked around me for a worthy cause. I ran into difficulties. I did not belong to any community. As a Hungarian Jew I had never quite become an American. I had left Hungary behind and my Jewishness did not express itself in a sense of tribal loyalty that would have led me to support Israel,” (http://www.osi.hu/oss/ch1.html)
- Born in Hungary in 1930, Mr. Soros began life as George Schwartz. His father, Tivadar, was from humble origins; his mother, Erzebet, from money. Both were Jews, but nonobservant (she eventually converted to Catholicism). Once married, Tivadar had to work just two hours a day managing some of his wife’s family property, which provided a handsome living for them and their two sons, Paul and George. At some point during the boys’ childhood, the parents decided to change the family name and chose the Hungarian-sounding but in fact obscure Soros. It means “soar” (in the future tense) in Esperanto, the made-up trans-European language promoted by those who dreamed of a world free of nationality. Tivadar was among its leading proponents. (Source: The Mind of George Soros; Meet the Esperanto enthusiast who wants to save the world from President Bush, 2 March 2004, The Wall Street Journal)
- Before the end of the war, however, Soros’ upper-middle-class world had inverted. The family posed as Christians and separated to hide from the Germans. They changed their name from Schwartz (considered too Jewish-sounding) to Soros (more reflective of the family’s Hungarian roots and because his father liked the palindrome). (The elusive billionaire: An author tries valiantly to capture the essence of philanthropist George Soros, Vancouver Sun, 20 April 2002)
The other day, George Soros and his older brother Paul, an engineer turned investor-philanthropist, met in the offices of Soros Fund Management to discuss their father. GLOBALIZATION
- Soros has long been calling for increased globalization. In “The Crisis of Global Capitalism,” 1998 he writes: “To stabilize and regulate a truly global economy, we need some global system of political decision-making. In short, we need a global society to support our global economy. A global society does not mean a global state. To abolish the existence of states is neither feasible nor desirable; but insofar as there are collective interests that transcend state boundaries, the sovereignty of states must be subordinated to international law and international institutions. Interestingly, the greatest opposition to this idea is coming from the United States. But there has never been a time when a strong lead from the U.S. and other like-minded countries could achieve such powerful and benign results. With the right sense of leadership and with clarity of purpose, the U.S. and its allies could help to stabilize the global economic system and to extend and uphold universal human values. The opportunity is waiting to be grasped.”
(Source: The Crisis of Global Capitalism.(book excerpt), George Soros, 7 December 1998, Newsweek)
- During this year he called for greater authority to institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and for an International Credit Insurance Corp. to establish some kind of supervision over national supervisory authorities and stated, “At the same time, there remains the urgent need for Congress to authorise an increase in the capital of the IMF.“ He admitted that such ”radical ideas“ could not even be considered until Congress ”changes its attitude toward international institutions in general and the IMF in particular.” (Source: Soros calls for global credit insurance agency, 15 September 1998, Reuters News)
- Soros has said that the United States would cease to be the world’s undisputed dominant force. “The veto power that we have in the International Monetary Fund will disappear. We will be downsized. At the same time, hopefully, we will have a better working system and opponents will be more downsized than we will.”
(Source: BOSTON, Oct. 29 — Massachusetts Institute of Technology press release via Factiva)
- “The Bubble of American Supremacy,”: “The disparity between private goods and public goods manifests itself in a number of ways. First, there is a growing inequality between rich and poor, both within countries and among countries. Admittedly, globalisation is not a zero-sum game: its benefits exceed the costs in the sense that the increased wealth produced by globalisation could be used to make up for the inequities and other shortcomings of globalisation and there would still be some extra wealth left over.
The trouble is that the winners do not compensate the losers either within states or between states. The welfare state as we know it has become unsustainable and international income redistribution is practically nonexistent. Total international assistance amounted to $US56.5 billion ($74.4 billion) in 2002. This amount represents only 0.18 per cent of global GDP. As a result, the gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow.”

SOROS’ PHILOSOPHY
- At the London School of Economics, Soros discovered the work of philosopher Karl Popper, whose ideas on open society had a profound influence on his thinking. He was attracted to Popper’s critique of totalitarianism, The Open Society and Its Enemies, which maintained that societies can only flourish when they allow democratic governance, freedom of expression, a diverse range of opinion, and respect for individual rights. Later, working as a trader and analyst, he adapted Popper to develop his own “theory of reflexivity,” a set of ideas that seeks to explain the relationship between thought and reality, which he used to predict, among other things, the emergence of financial bubbles. Soros began to apply his theory to investing and concluded that he had more talent for trading than for philosophy. In 1967 he helped establish an offshore investment fund; and in 1973 he set up a private investment firm that eventually evolved into the Quantum Fund, one of the first hedge funds. http://www.soros.org/about/bios/staff/george-soros
QUOTES FROM “The Open Society and Its Enemies: Hegel and Marx,” by Karl Popper (Vol. 2), by Karl Popper
- The development of capitalism has led to the elimination of all classes but two, a small bourgeiouse and a huge proletariat: and the increase of misery has forced the latter to revolt against its exploiters. The conclusions are, first, that the workers must win the struggle, secondly that, by eliminating bourgeiouse, they must establish a classless society, since only one class remains. (pg 151-152)
- But all over the earth, organized political power has begun to perform far-reaching economic functions. Unrestrained capitalism has given way to a new historical period, to our own period of political interventionism, of the economic interference of the state. Interventionism has assumed various forms. There is the Russian variety; there is the fascist form of totalitarianism; and their s the domestic interventionism of England, of the United States, and the “Smaller Democracies” led by Sweden where the technology of democratic intervention has reached the highest level so far. (pg 155)
- Admittedly, increasing misery must produce resistance, and it is even likely to produce rebellious outbreaks. But the assumption of our argument is that the misery cannot be alleviated until victory has been won in the social revolution. (pg 163)
- I am not in all cases and under all circumstance against a violent revolution. (pg 166)
- …the working of democracy rests largely upon the understanding that a government which attempts to misuse its powers and to establish itself as a tyranny (or which tolerates the establishment of a tyranny by anybody else) outlaws itself, and that the citizens have not only a right, but also a duty to consider the action of such government a crime, and its members as a dangerous gang of criminals. (pg 167)
http://www.hoover.org/publications/hoover-digest/article/8018
- Although compelled to leave his native Austria in the 1930s (because of his Jewish ancestry), his book is remarkably free from personal bitterness or sadness.
- He did not shrink from tracing the sources of those dangerous ideas to Marx, to Hegel, and even to that greatest of all philosophers, Plato. At a time when many intellectuals had lost faith in democracy, Popper offered a spirited defense of democratic principles and outlined a compelling vision of a society grounded in democratic reforms.
- Popper was a fallibilist, one who perceives great error and danger in any theory of knowledge—or regime—that claimed to offer certain truth. In such a system, there would be no incentive to establish social and political structures that promote learning or the free exchange of ideas; truth is already at hand. In the name of historical progress, the regime may then justify the squelching of human freedoms and even atrocities on a grand scale.
- George Soros, who first encountered The Open Society as Popper’s student at the London School of Economics, founded the Open Society Institute to propagate Popper’s ideas, particularly in Eastern Europe. Thus the political philosophy Popper first articulated before the start of the Cold War is now being studied and put into practice in countries newly emerging from behind the Iron Curtain.
- He left school at age sixteen and began auditing lectures at the University of Vienna. Although a Marxist as a teenager, he was repelled in 1919 by the leftist-inspired street violence of postwar Vienna that resulted in the deaths of demonstrators. That same year, he studied Freud’s psychoanalysis and worked for a time with psychiatrist Alfred Adler.
- In 1922 he matriculated at the University of Vienna. To support himself, he apprenticed himself to a cabinetmaker and took up social work. Pursuing his goal of becoming a schoolteacher, Popper subsequently returned to the university. In 1928, he earned a Ph.D. in philosophy and, in 1929, a teacher’s certificate. Beginning in the late 1920s, Popper began interacting with members of the famous Vienna Circle of logical positivists, a group of prominent intellectuals trying to articulate the importance of science for philosophy. Shortly after publishing (in German) a then little-noticed but classic work on the logical foundations of science in 1934, Popper left Austria under the threat of Nazi anti-Semitism. From New Zealand, where he had obtained a university teaching post, he returned to England after World War II as professor of philosophy of science at the London School of Economics, where he remained until his retirement.
SOROS AND PRESIDENT OBAMA
- In December 2006, Soros met with presidential hopeful Barack Obama in Soros’ New York office. Soros had previously hosted a fundraiser for Obama during his 2004 campaign for the Senate.
- On January 16, 2007, Obama announce the creation of a presidential exploratory committee and within hours Soros sent a contribution of $2,100, the maximum allowable under campaign finance laws.
- Days after Obama was elected in November of 2008, Soros said in an interview “I think we need a large stimulus package which will provide funds for state and local government to maintain their budgets – because they are not allowed by the constitution to run a deficit. For such a program to be successful, the federal government would need to provide hundreds of billions of dollars. In addition, another infrastructure program is necessary. In total, the cost would be in the 300 to 600 billion dollar range.” Since then, Congress passed a $787 billion stimulus and Obama very recently introduced a $50 billion plan to improve the country’s transportation program, saying “I want America to have the best infrastructure in the world.”
- In that same interview, Soros called for cap & trade: “I think this is a great opportunity to finally deal with global warming and energy dependence. The US needs a cap and trade system with auctioning of licenses for emissions rights. I would use the revenues from these auctions to launch a new, environmentally friendly energy policy. That would be yet another federal program that could help us to overcome the current stagnation.” Since then, Congress has introduced cap & trade legislation. (More info in “going green” section)
- Also in that interview, Soros said “In 2010, the Bush tax cuts will expire and we should not extend them.” Since then, Obama expressed his opposition to the Bush tax cuts in an interview with ABC on September 9th: “All those middle class folks who need tax relief hostage right now in order to provide tax breaks for the top two percent wealthiest Americans, who don’t need a tax break, aren’t asking for a tax break. And you know, if we could afford it, it’d be one thing. But we know that’s gonna cost $700 billion over ten years. And so, that is not a smart thing to do for the economy”
- Soros is also on board with Obama’s proposals to reform the banking system. In an interview with the BBC: Interviewer: Now President Obama last week announced some quite radical proposals to reform the banking system. He wants them out of what he calls “proprietary trading”, using their capital to speculate on their own account, and also he wants a limit on their size. Are these constructive measures in your view? Soros: Very much so these are the right … it goes in the right direction. In my opinion, it doesn’t actually go far enough because it still leaves the problem of too big to fail. In other words, if you let’s say now again Goldman Sachs gives up its banking license, it becomes then an investment bank …
- Since Obama’s been in office, Soros has made four visits to the White House
- ALSO IN HIS 2008 INTERVIEW:
SPIEGEL: Your proposal would be dismissed on Wall Street as “big government.” Republicans might call it European-style “socialism.”
Soros: That is exactly what we need now. I am against market fundamentalism. I think this propaganda that government involvement is always bad has been very successful — but also very harmful to our society.
SPIEGEL: Would you advise the new president to say that publicly?
Soros: He has already spoken about changing the political discourse. I think it is better to have a government that wants to provide good government than a government that doesn’t believe in government.
WILL ANOTHER FISCAL STIMULUS BE NEXT?
- “The simple truth is that the private sector does not employ available resources. Mr. Obama has in fact been very friendly to business, and corporations are operating profitably. But instead of investing, they are building up liquidity. Perhaps a Republican victory would boost their confidence, but in the meantime, investment and employment require fiscal stimulus,” (Financial Times, Oct. 4, 2010)
LAUNCHING A WAR AGAINST PRESIDENT BUSH
- Soros told the Washington Post: “I have made rejection of the Bush doctrine the central project of my life… America, under Bush, is a danger to the world. And I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.”
- Also during that election: “This is the most important election of my lifetime. These aren’t normal times. The ends justify every legal means possible.”

SOROS AND VAN JONES
- Soros has also supported Van Jones – Originally through the Open Society Institute which gave the Ella Baker Center $151,800 in 2006 and $140,000 in 2007. Van Jones was head of the Ella Baker Center during those years. OSI also funded Green for All in 2008 – they received a grant in the amount of $75,000 to “integrate the Civic Justice Corps into Green For All’s campaign to create a national Clean Energy Corps.” while Van Jones was running it. Van Jones later appeared as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. Additionally, OSI helped fund TIDES which then started the Apollo Alliance (where Van Jones sat on the board).
CAP & TRADE
- Soros is also a huge proponent of cap and trade. The sot below sounds very similar to VAN JONES’ “We’renot going to put a new battery in a broken system.”
