Could Higher Food Prices Lead To American Unrest Like Egypt?

WASHINGTON (AP)---The World Bank delivered a stark warning of the impact of the rising cost of food Tuesday, saying an estimated 44 million people had been pushed into poverty since last summer by soaring commodity prices.
The group’s president, Robert Zoellick, says global food prices have hit “dangerous levels” that could contribute to political instability, push millions of people into poverty and raise the cost of groceries.
“Global food prices are rising to dangerous levels and threaten tens of millions of poor people around the world,” Zoellick said. “The price hike is already pushing millions of people into poverty, and putting stress on the most vulnerable, who spend more than half of their income on food.” By Meredith Jessup.  As the left-wing keeps pushing for a "revolution like Egypt's" there is one factor that will most likely turn the left-wings dreams of a revolution into reality. That factor is food prices inflating. Conservatives have been pointing to the rising food prices coming our way for some time now. The lefties said that inflation of food and gas wasn't coming. But the left also said that the bailout of GM and Chrysler would stop them from going bankrupt, that obamacare would bring down health insurance prices, that hiring Democrats to run our country would bring peace throughout the world and that the Stimulus I,II and III would fix our economy and put people back to work. If you have learned one thing over the years about the Democratic Party it's that they call it wrong more often then calling it right. Are you starting to see why only Clinton was the only Democrat to win two terms since Roosevelt?

  1. Chris is that even a coherent discussion?

Did you intended to make a case for the possibility of increasing food prices in America or not? If so then where is the evidence? All i see is some points about world issues and then attacks on the "lefties" instead of anything specific.

I'd be interested to see you make a case for it, but i guess that would require more than ideological attacks and anecdotal evidence. Shoot it might take you 30 whole minutes to find that the CPI for food 2010 was a whole 1.5% and that the overall inflationary rate is foretasted not to clear 3% and average a little lower than that for the year.

you might also find this in the same article, "Industrialized nations like the United States are insulated from the price increases because raw ingredients account for just a fraction of the total food costs."

And if you looked for a few minutes more you'd find that it is not inflationary pressures driving up the costs of Food, but a limited supply. Speaking of being wrong, did you forget that recent thread about the CBO report where you drank the Blaze Kool-aid only to get thumped by the actual report?

Your like the auto industry of the late 70's where the quantity of the cars was way more important than the quality. Just like your blog.

  2. Go buy some food or gas and you will see the proof you need. Or just look at the futures for coton,corn,coffee,wheat,soy...that tells us what our future prices will be Joe. I know it must be hard for you to understand since you don't shop. Because if you did shop you'd know what is happening to food prices. Joe food prices and energy prices aren't counted in the inflation index. I've told you that before buyt you chose to be ignorant about it. Have you seen what is happening to oil prices? You do know how oil prices effect everything we buy? Joe if you were ever right about anything other then the occasional thing it would be amazing. Good luck being right again Joe you'll need it.

  3. Chris do you not know how to read? I gave you the official statistics used by the government, economists and everyone but people like you and Sarah Palin.

The 2010 CPI average for Food in the United States was 1.5%. That is what food prices rose overall last year.

and chris food and energy are included in Historical Cpi but not Core cpi and i gave you the historical CPI not the core CPI the feds use.

nice try but again i am right and your wrong. Please feel free to look it up for yourself.

  4. what i like best is that your girl Sarah Palin attacks Michelle Obama over "breastfeeding" with this quote...

"No wonder Michelle Obama is telling everybody, 'You'd better breastfeed your baby,' " said Palin, "Yeah, you'd better, because the price of milk is so high right now" courtesy of NYT.

    All Milk Price USDA
    Jan 2011 16.2 (thats outrageous)
    Jan 2010 16.1
Jan 2009 13.3 (i can see it is going up)
Jan 2008 20.5 (Holy shit thats high)
Jan 2007 14.5 (spent half year above 20)
    Jan 2006 14.5
