Obama bypasses Senate for new Medicare chief

Donald Berwick  President Barack Obama bypassed the Senate Wednesday and appointed Dr. Donald Berwick, a Harvard professor and patient care specialist, to run Medicare and Medicaid. Take a close look at why Obama bypassed the Senate on this guy's appointment. It was a smart move by Obama if you ask me. This guy would never have made it past the Senate or the American people in the hearings. He is just another radical from the left and that is why they bypassed the Senate. Why do we even need a Congress with this admin?
Well Grandma here is the person that will tell you that you can't get the care you need. We told you that this was all about redistributing wealth and now the man in charge is saying the same thing. It looks like the left was full of crap when they said we were crazy about obamacare being about wealth redistribution. Just remember what party did all this to you and your loved ones. Just remember what party took what you earned. And never forget that it was the Democratic Party that made this country a second rate nation. And when the left start their riots because they want more, like they always do, fight back. If you have a job then you are too rich to vote for a Democrat and they know it. Wake up you neighbor's and let them know they are too wealth to vote for a Democrat. The Democrats in power think you owe more then you give. They will take away your personal freedoms for the collective. And this radical Berwick is just another piece of the puzzle in the redistribution of wealth for the "collective good". All you baby boomers are going to get what you voted for,"change". Now when you are coming to the age when you will need health care we once had you wont have it. And if you think the Democrats give a shit that 69% of Americans want obamacare repealed then you are still stoned from the 1960's. And all you young people that voted for these socialist cry over your dead parents body because they didn't get the care they needed, blame yourself instead of the Fed. You are the ones that voted them in.

  2. Chris, before you condemn the British system, you may want to check out this poll, which even though dated, is after Britain established the NHS.

You might also note the US is ranked 37 and Britain 18th by the WHO.

So, to sum up, the United States has the 2nd most costly system and is not getting a good result for the money that we spend on health care.

Instead of focusing on ideology, why don't we try focusing on the best solutions.

  3. I understand there may be occasions that necessitate recess appointments, but this was not one of them. Even Baucus (Democrat) was complaining about this one. Obama did not want this guy to face any tough questions. What is this administration afraid of? I guess the shorter answer would be given if I asked what this administration WASN'T afraid of!

Best solutions Comrade FAILK? Solutions like health INSURANCE for everyone? You know, insurance, that thing that you hated before Obummer, Pelousy and Harry "Negro" Reid decided that Big insurance was the way to go? What a pack of idiots; no wonder you worship them. Idiots of a feather flock together.

10 Surprising Facts about American Health Care
    http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba649

Fact No. 1: Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers.[1] Breast cancer mortality is 52% higher in Germany, and 88% higher in the UK. Prostate cancer mortality is 604% higher in the U.K. and 457% higher in Norway. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer among British men and women is about 40% higher.
Fact No. 2: Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians.
Fact No. 3: Americans have better access to treatment for chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries.
Fact No. 4: Americans have better access to preventive cancer screening than Canadians.
Fact No. 5: Lower income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians.
Fact No. 6: Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada and the U.K. Canadian and British patients wait about twice as long. In England, nearly 1.8 million people are waiting for a hospital admission or outpatient treatment.
Fact No. 7: People in countries with more government control of health care are highly dissatisfied and believe reform is needed. More than 70% of German, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and British adults say their health system needs either "fundamental change" or "complete rebuilding."
Fact No. 8: Americans are more satisfied with the care they receive than Canadians.
Fact No. 9: Americans have much better access to important new technologies like medical imaging than patients in Canada or the U.K.
Fact No. 10: Americans are responsible for the vast majority of all health care innovations.

And are we still talking about health care?!?! You Hypocrats got what you wanted, the bill you wanted, rammed it through AGAINST the wishes of the majority of VOTING constituents. You want to talk about focusing on the best solutions NOW?!?! LMAO ... your solution was to make health care more expensive by bailing out Big Insurance, Big Pharma, trial lawyers. Now you idiots are going to have to live with it!

  4. Bruce I lived in Japan and was under their nationalized system. I know first hand what it is like so don't tell me that it's better. I have many friends throughout the world and none feel that their national system is better then ours. Do you think spreading the wealth is what our government was set up to do?

  6. Hey, Brucski,
Remember the promises made by the 3 stooges, Obama, Pelosi & Reid?
Lower premiums- According to a recent memo from the Actuary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the medical device and pharmaceutical drugs fees and the health insurance excise tax will ―generally be passed through to health consumers in the form of higher drugs and device prices and higher insurance premiums, with an associated increase in overall national health expenditures.
    OPPS!

Americans who like their current health plan can keep it- the Administration own published a regulation regarding grandfathered health plans, as many as seven out of every 10 businesses across the country will lose their grandfathered health plan. And Americans will see the cost of that employer-provided coverage increase due to government mandates and regulation.
    OPPS!

And the big boy liberals where fighting for:
Now, Millions of people without insurance can get insurance- the CBO estimates 23 million people will still be without health coverage at all. The dramatic cuts to Medicare could cause some providers to end their participation in the program, and could jeopardize access to care for beneficiaries.
    OOOOOOPPS!!!!!!!!

There’s more, but you get the idea.

    Summary:
-Sixteen million Americans are forced into Medicaid, a program that denies care and yields lower health outcomes for patients, and for which there are minimal physicians to deliver care.
-American citizens will be forced to purchase costlier health care or pay a tax; illegal immigrants will continue to get free care and those costs will be shifted onto Americans.
-Uninsured Americans will now be considered violators of the law and could face harassment by the IRS.
-The new health law increases the cost of health care and insurance.
-Millions of Americans will lose their current health plan as employers either drop coverage or purchase more expensive, government-dictated health insurance.

Yeah, lets point the gun at someone BEFORE we check to make sure it's not loaded.

    Inadequate Spending? By Howard Rich
    July 09, 2010

In a column published last week in The New York Times , Paul Krugman condemns recent attempts to inject some common sense into what has become an epidemic of mindless government growth in America and around the world.

With the global economy teetering on the brink of another slowdown (due to excessive government borrowing associated with Europe’s failed welfare state), Krugman and other Keynesians — including President Obama — are now lobbying aggressively for additional government “stimulus” spending at home and abroad.

They say they want to protect a “fragile recovery,” but Americans know better. With no new jobs, deteriorating consumer confidence and unexpectedly low retail reports putting a dent in the markets and on Main Street, the truth is there is no recovery — there is only an attempt to justify more government growth.

Specifically Krugman blasted several world leaders (although obviously not the leader of the “free world”) for what he called “preaching the need for belt-tightening when the real problem is inadequate spending.”

And no, that’s not a typo. He actually said “inadequate spending.”

According to these “New Keynesians,” the unsustainable government growth that preceded the most recent economic downturn apparently wasn’t enough. Nor was the unprecedented barrage of bailouts, taxpayer-funded guarantees, freshly-printed greenbacks and deficit spending that Washington threw at the problem over the last two years. And let’s not forget what has been heaped on top of all that “stimulus” spending — a $2.5 trillion socialized medicine plan that represents one of the largest expansions of entitlement spending in American history.

Amazingly, despite the clear failure of the “stimulus” — and despite the fact that excess entitlement spending is what has driven the eurozone to its present precariousness — the rallying cry of these big government backers appears to be “we have only just begun to spend.”

Let’s examine the efficacy of that mantra for a moment, shall we?

Even prior to the onset of the “Great Recession” in Dec. 2007, government at all levels in the United States was growing by leaps and bounds. For example, state and local spending soared from $1.74 trillion in 2000 to $2.66 trillion in 2007. Even after adjusting for inflation, that’s a 23.7% increase. Similarly, federal spending jumped from $1.79 trillion in 2000 to $2.73 trillion in 2007 — a roughly identical 23.5% increase after again adjusting for inflation.

Obviously, this upward trend was placed on steroids when the downturn began. For starters more than $13 trillion has been spent, lent, printed or pledged on “recovery” efforts alone over the last two-and-a-half years. Also, Washington’s two most recent federal budgets have added more than $3 trillion in deficit spending to our skyrocketing national debt, with trillions of dollars in additional red ink projected over the coming decade.

Accordingly, when we add post-2007 spending to the total tab for the decade, the government growth rate has more than doubled — to 52.4%.

By comparison, total government spending in the 1990s grew at a much slower rate — by approximately 17.4% — which enabled more economic activity and the creation of more wealth up and down the socio-economic ladder. In fact, per capita personal income during the 1990s grew by 23.6%, adjusted for inflation. By comparison, per capita personal income during the first decade of the new millennium has grown by only 4.6% — a sad testament to the failure of the Keynesian philosophy that Washington continues pursuing with reckless abandon.

This is not rocket science, it is common sense. The more government grows, the more the economy suffocates. Conversely, the more government contracts, the freer we will be as a nation to prosper.

  11. If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a TelePrompTer installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

    If
George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically
significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had stated that there were 57 states in the United States , would you have said that he is clueless.

If George W. Bush would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute
speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in Texas , would you have thought he was a self important, conceited, egotistical jerk.
If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had misspelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan
Quayle and potatoes as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in
New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would
    you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 15 months -- so you'll have two years and nine months to come up with an answer.
