Obama and the Democratic Party Lied About 'Death Panels'

AP
When a proposal to encourage end-of-life planning touched off a political storm over "death panels," Democrats dropped it from legislation to overhaul the health care system. But the Obama administration will achieve the same goal by regulation, starting Jan. 1. Under the new policy, outlined in a Medicare regulation, the government will pay doctors who advise patients on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment. It turns out that the Democratic Party did lie about the 'death panels'. Who would have guessed that it was the Democratic Party and Obama that did the lieing about these 'death panels'. And just think of all those liberal zombies doing the bidding of the Democratic Party and the Soros organizations. They must feel like real fools again. It turns out all the 'fear mongering' the lefties said we were doing was in the framework of the health care bill. The worse part is the same liberal fools will still mouth the Democratic Parties talking points without a thought of their own. And they will make up excuses for the lies.

  1. wow, way to junp to conclusions...

This is what the WSJ says...

The White House on Sunday said the new Medicare directive, reported Sunday by the New York Times, doesn't constitute a resurrection of the original health-care-bill language. It said the George W. Bush administration had already put in place guidelines allowing for Medicare to pay for end-of-life consultations.

A Medicare revamp in 2003 created a "welcome to Medicare" visit for seniors newly entering the program to get a checkup. Another law passed in 2008 and signed by Mr. Bush specifies that the welcome visit can include a discussion of "end-of-life planning."

The health-care overhaul in 2010 turned the welcome visit into an annual "wellness visit," saying seniors could get covered for a checkup every year. The new directive makes clear that the annual wellness visit can include the same end-of-life planning already permitted in the welcome visit.

So he's only allowing the Bush death panels to happen more often. When did you and Sarah Palin protest the BUSH DEATH PANELS?

  2. Here's some cut and paste for you Joe. During the stormy debate over his healthcare plan, President Barack Obama promised his program would not "pull the plug on grandma," and Congress dropped plans for death panels and "end of life" counseling that would encourage aged patients from partaking in costly medical procedures.

Opponents of Obama's plan, including former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, dubbed such efforts as "death panels" that would encourage euthanasia.

But on Dec. 3, the Obama administration seemingly flouted the will of Congress by issuing a new Medicare regulation detailing "voluntary advance care planning" that is to be included during patients' annual checkups. The regulation aimed at the aged "may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment," The New York Times reported.

The new provision, which goes into effect Jan. 1, allows Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling to help beneficiaries deal with the complex decisions families face when a loved one is approaching death. Critics say it is another attempt to limit healthcare options for the elderly as they face serious illness.

Incoming House Speaker John Boehner said during the healthcare debate: “This provision may start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia.”

Specifically, the measure was known as Section 1233 of the bill the House passed in November 2009. It was not included in the final legislation, however. It allowed Medicare to pay for consultations about advance care planning every five years. In contrast, the new rule allows annual discussions as part of wellness visits.

Elizabeth D. Wickham, executive director of LifeTree, a pro-life Christian educational ministry, told the Times that she is concerned that end-of-life counseling would encourage patients to forgo or curtail care, thus hastening death.

“The infamous Section 1233 is still alive and kicking,” Wickham said. “Patients will lose the ability to control treatments at the end of life.”

The rule was issued by Dr. Donald Berwick, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, according to the Times. He is a longtime advocate for rationing medical procedures for the elderly.

Before Obama tapped Berwick for the Medicare post, Berwick had long applauded Britain's National Health Service, which uses an algorithm to determine whether the aged are worthy of additional expenditures for medical care and advanced treatments.

Berwick has argued that rationing will have to be implemented eventually, stating, “The decision is not whether or not we will ration care. The decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open.”

Seniors appear to be a major target for precious resources under the Obama healthcare plan. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Obama plan cuts nearly $500 billion in Medicare benefits to seniors as the federal government adds 30 million uninsured Americans to private and public healthcare systems.

The cost of caring for the elderly has not been lost on Berwick.

“The chronically ill and those towards the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here . . . there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place,” he said.

During the heated healthcare debate, supporters of the Obama plan vigorously denied that rationing for seniors would take place and scoffed at "death panel" critics such as Palin.

  5. Pelosi brillantly stated "We will have to pass the bill to see whats in it"!

Well by God she's correct and many surprises that have little to do with health care will occurr. Not the Method to Govern but pretty good method to Rule!

End of Life planning most of us do. Having discussion with patient is one thing encourage none treatment should not be government function.

The whole Socialized Insurance is for one reason. Down the road Government control NO more No less. When OUR economy is Ruined by this Regimes Policies whom will PAY for this BILL that in actuality still does NOT cover all! Whom will PAY?

  6. Al, did you read what is happening.

All they are doing is allowing for payment for these voluntary services under medi-care.

So if you want to discuss with your doctor your wishes it will be paid for.

  7. Joe I personnely beleive a Death descision should be made between Patient,Family with Doctor input. Government should not be involved in the decesion at all and Government paying for service is Government involvemnt. I have made my plans LONG ago on what I want done when that decesion must be made. I have let it be known through court papers my wishes and Government had NO involvement in MY wishes and thats my point, all a Citizens has to do is refuse medical treatment and Die with dignity and Government does not and should not be involved. Party or Politics should not be in any way involved PERIOD!

  8. JoeC and Anon,,,,

Whats the difference, A RINO in GW Bush or a socialist?

Death panels are exactly that and matters not who proposes them!

My God, this is not political in decision nor should ever be! This is about choice which at that foundation is an American principle!

Please do not argue who brought this about, but rather fight ALL who want to BRING this about!

  9. If you want to see a real death panel, go to Arizona or read this article.

Republican Governor Jan Brewer and the Republican majority Arizona legislature has decided to defund the Medicaid program that pays for organ transplants. 100 people who were in line to get life saving organ transplants will no longer receive them and will most likely die because of the defunding of the program.

That's a real REPUBLICAN death panel.

  10. Bruce and Joe arte you saying that you are for Obama's death panels but against defunding this abortion of a bill that also has the potential to kill many times more Americans? Can you two be any more left-wing endoctrinated? It's a shame how blind you two are or choose to be. But I'm sure reality is setting in as the truth of Progressive policies come to fruition.

  11. Al, Cp and others,

there is nothing wrong with voluntary discussion with your doctor about end of life planning. It should happen, and if that person is on Medi-care the doctor should be able to get paid for the care he provided.

The government is not getting involved, it is paying for it. there is nothing in any of the language that would create or enforce anything but your wishes.

If they didn't do this, the Doctor would bill you or he would hide it under some other code and get paid anyways. You are being disengenius and actively avoiding the reality of what we should be discussing.

You guys are playing politics with something that should happen in our country. shame on you.

  12. Chris, i have a question???

    Chris said...
Bruce and Joe arte you saying that you are for Obama's death panels but against defunding this abortion of a bill that also has the potential to kill many times more Americans?

    What does this mean???

I am okay with Medi-care paying for yearly voluntary discussions on end of life planning for seniors. I think that doctors with medicaid and medicare patients should be able to discuss this and receive pay for it if the patients so choose.

I oppose forced visits and oppose cutting treatment for medical efficiency reasons. whether its by government or the current medical insurance cabal.

  13. Joe your last statement I can agree with,I just cannot not be comfortable with government in anyway involved in FAMILY/DOCTOR Issue. I am not playing politics I just do not beleive politics/government belong in personnel Family Issue!

  14. Obamacare funds abortions Joe. It will, like all government funded health care, withhold treatment as well. See joe it's not in the framework but in the language of the implementation. That is why Cass Sunstein is one of the most powerful men in America.

  15. Chris and Al, what you are calling "death panels" are nothing of the sort. It is merely the health care act authorizing payment to discuss end-of-life planning with your doctor.

THAT IS NOT A DEATH PANEL. GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL.

A death panel is what Governor Brewer and the Republicans in Arizona did by reneging on paying for organ transplants. THAT'S A DEATH PANEL.

As far as the Health Care Reform Act paying for abortion, that isn't true either.

PLEASE STOP WATCHING FOX. IT IS NOT NEWS.

STOP READING NEWSMAX. IT IS NOT NEWS.

You cannot show me anywhere in the Health Care Reform Act that says it pays for abortion.

Health care reform does not force end-of-life counseling. All it does is pay for it if YOU choose to take advantage of it.

  16. Joe, you and the Whitehouse are wrong on that "The White House on Sunday... It said the George W. Bush administration had already put in place guidelines allowing for Medicare to pay for end-of-life consultations."

    That was Veto by Bush.

    http://www.redstate.com/susananne/2010/12/28/actually-bush-vetoed-the-2008-bill-slipping-in-the-end-of-life-provision/

So Obama doesn't do his homework.... again.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe Obama did his homework but chose to lie because he knew that the zombies would mumble his words in mass. They sure do have those zombies trained well that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mark, can i ask 2 questions?

Was the WH actually wrong? I have read the link you provided and although Bush did veto the legislation and it was passed over that veto, the guidelines for enacting the new rules were written by the Administration officials at Medi-care right?

so if the guidelines were changed to increase the availability of payments is that a bad thing?

    ReplyDelete
  19. AL, the government isn't getting involved. Just paying for it. Big difference.

Funny how you guys react when YOU FEEL the government wants to ration care, but there is no hue and cry about private insurance doing that.

so if we eliminate government run health care, which the right is in favor of, we would rely on private insurance which rations care and has done so for decades. A simply stunning cognitive dissidence there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Chris, speaking of zombies being trained well, care to find that link to the non-existent UN international health organization survey?

Bwahahahahahaha, how can you call anyone a zombie, you posted a internet hoax? Again. You've been caught a few times now.

  21. This coming from the guy that has lied about the Bush death panels and abortions being covered under obamacare. Joe when have you told the truth? Nice try Joe but you look it up. I'm sure you have and that is why you keep trying to get me to play your game.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Joe The government is NOT paying for it. Tax payers are and thats a BIG difference. In the past any thing Government pays for it WILL Control eventually....

The total Socialized Insurance legislation will eventually be a "single payer" and for now is almost single handedly keeping Private Sector from hiring. You know that State of the Union Speech and that LAZERING thingy!

This Bill was NOT about Insuring all Citizens It does NOT. This Bill was NOT about Lowering Health Cost it does NOT! So Joe if this 2000+ Bill does not Insure ALL and Does NOT Lower Cost why did this Regime push so hard IGNORING Citizens,Economy and Jobs? Why Joe?

Please keep it clean and nice. Thank you for taking the time to post you thought. It means a lot to me that you do this.
