Could It Be Republicans Call For Ban On For-Profit Earmarks

What's wrong with earmarks? I've got one and think it looks quite nice:From The Hill House Republicans approved a conference-wide moratorium on earmarks on Thursday, one day after a House committee enacted a ban on for-profit earmarks.
The Republicans' moratorium is more extensive than the House Appropriations Committee's ban in that it applies to all earmarks for all members of the caucus.
The moratorium was passed via a "strong" voice vote, according to Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), who participated in the nearly two-hour-long conference meeting.
Senate Republicans appeared receptive to the House's proposal Thursday.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) offered a one-year moratorium on earmarks on the Senate floor as the House Republicans were taking their vote. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) specifically complimented the House's plan in a Twitter post.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey's (D-Wis.) proposal to cut all for-profit earmarks on his panel was met with staunch opposition from his Senate counterpart, Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii).
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) cheered the effort and has floated the idea of a full earmark ban.
Freshman Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) on Thursday issued a statement calling for an end to all earmarks.

  1. Its a joke.

their ban includes public universities doing research. Great...wise choice guys. Don't let earmarks for medical research or anything like that happen. What a bunch of fools. Of course the right will fall for it and love the assclowns.

  2. If Tax Payers Money is Going For Research Other Than Ear Marks What Would The Procedure Be! Thought Nobama Signed Legislation " Pay-Go" To Eliminate Spending That Was Not Paid For First, BEFORE Releasing Funds! The Legislation is a MONTH Old Now So I Guess It Can Be Offically ABUSED NOW!

I Do Believe That Some of These Research Projects were For Some Really Weird Things!

Tax Payers Money Should Always Go Through Checks and Balances Before Being Released,Seems Fically Responsible to ME.

  3. Joe do you like earmarks or something? Or just the one that are in your interest?

  4. Chris i am not fond of them, but unlike your side i wouldn't cut off my nose to spite my face. i can see making for profit no-bid contract type earmarks which all of us probably understand leads to campaign paybacks being cut, but the republican strategy of starving the beast is not in the nations best interests.

Some earmarks do have the capacity to offer great rewards to our society and that's why i feel non-profit research style university earmark and stuff of like ilk shouldn't be blanket cut.

  5. I think both sides need to stop the games of earmarks like Obama promised he would but didn't. It is what Obama ran on and another broken promise of his. Don't you mean some earmarks are good for you and your ilk? As long as you get a net gain your way you don't care how much it costs we the people. Take a look at the debt. Doesn't it bother you? Or did it only bother you when Bush let the Democrats in Congress role it up? That is a big problem with you Demoicrats. You are consistant.

  6. ALERT: Democrats are attacking anybody that dares to stop Obama's extreme quest to destroy healthcare in America. Rejecting sensible ideas, not starting over, feeding on the members of their own party and when all else fails Obama, Pelosi and Reid have become true dictators as they lie, cheat and deal. Obama is defying the public to ram ObamaCare into law at any cost betraying America and this is not the change we are looking for.

TELL ALL 261 Democrat/Independent Representatives, Blue Dog Democrats AND President Obama To KILL THIS BILL and CUT HealthCare COSTS FIRST.
Select Here SEND YOUR FAXES NOW!

75% of Americans polled by CNN reject it. Pelosi says - JUST PASS THE BILL THEN YOU CAN READ WHAT'S IN IT!

Shamefully, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are using strong arm tactics and are buying votes with empty promises to House Democrats. They say they will change the bill after passage to remove special deals to individual states, cut healthcare costs, save Medicare benefits and include government run healthcare with the public option.

Pelosi has told Democrats that they should sacrifice their own re-election if necessary so that Obama can get his way. Democrats owe their loyalty to the people who elect them not to the leaders of the DNC?

True democrats - regardless of party - understand that they are not in office to fulfill their own wishes. They are there as the representatives of the people. They must stand up to do the right thing and protect all Americans. Democrats who choose to follow Obama and Pelosi, in defiance of their constituents, are showing a true lack of character and should be removed from office.

House Democrats and Republicans must stop Pelosi and Reid from using a slick budget process that requires the House to pass the Senate version of ObamaCare without changes.

Just last month Democrats passed a pay as you go budget policy because it was politically correct saying any new unbudgeted items added to the budget would be paid for with cuts. One month later they decided to ignore the new law and added a $10 billion benefits extension in new unbudgeted debt and vilify Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky for daring to make them pay for it first.

Obama and the Democrats cannot be trusted with a Healthcare entitlement that is already estimated to be 30% of the Federal budget. Obama lied in a recent speech saying his scheme would save $1Trillion "over the next decade." The CBO however estimated the bill would save $132 billion from 2010 to 2019, leaving Obama's "next decade" estimate $868 billion short. The budget office also said "A detailed year-by-year projection for years beyond 2019 ... would not be meaningful, because the uncertainties involved are simply too great."

There is no way to stop ObamaCare in the Senate since Obama has ordered Reid to use reconciliation, FORCING THE BILL TO PASS WITH 51 VOTES. But we can beat it in the House! Dozens of Congressmen who voted for the bill last time are re-thinking their support as tax increases and special deals to buy off Senators are included. And, since the bill passed by only 220-215, Pelosi has no Democratic margin for error.

This is the biggest gamble of Obama's presidency. Nancy Pelosi may not have the votes to pass the healthcare bill through the House. So, Obama is telling the Blue Dogs that he is prepared to sacrifice them in order to get ObamaCare. Will they cave in and throw away their chances in November, or will they finally live up to their "conservative" label?

  7. Chris, i am glad that you like my consistence. thank you for the compliment, however i find it distasteful that you suggest i only like things that help socialists and other anarchists. I think that non-profit university style research that benefits all the citizens is an earmark we could all support.

  8. Joe we need to cut back on everything right now. Have you seen the national debt? We have to cut to the bone now because we didn't cut the fat earlier. There needs to be a lot of great causes that don't get funded by the federal government. If we don't pay off this debt instead of making it grow faster then the speed of light then your kid and my kids will be given a bad deal. And we all know what is happening to the SSI and Medicare that we are paying for but wont get or give. Why is it the Feds job to run a charity? Take a good look at why the federal government was created and what it has become. Joe you are consistanly inconsistant just like your party.

  9. I agree with cutting. Absolutely. Start with Korea and pulling our troops out. Next go to Germany and remove our troops there. So once we've lowered our troop deployments to defensive posture we'll have saved lots of money.

I don't like the charity that the Pentagon runs for no-bid defense contractors either.

  10. I Do Agree that Troops in Korea, Germany and Japan Should Be Brought Out of Harms Way,Especially Korea! But Then Again Another Problem, When Cutting Back on Military Which I Dont Agree With All Of a Sudden We Got How Many More Unemployeed and What is The Cost Savings Versus Having Professional Military.

City County State and Federal Contracts Should All Be Bid Out! On Occassion Low Bid Aint Always Best and Politicans MUST Explain if Higher Bids are Used!

The Practice by Both Parties to Included ANY Ear Marks in ANY Bill Put Before it Must Be STOPPED Period! Legislation Should STAND on Its Own Merit NOT What Amounts to Bribery!
