Open Thread: Pledge of Nonviolence (MLK)

Congress of Racial Equality conducts march in memory of Negro youngsters killed in Birmingham bombings, All Souls Church, 16th Street, Wash[ington], D.C.
Pledge of Nonviolence
1. As you prepare to march meditate on the life and teachings of Jesus
2. Remember the nonviolent movement seeks justice and reconciliation - not victory.
3. Walk and talk in the manner of love; for God is love.
4. Pray daily to be used by God that all men and women might be free.
5. Sacrifice personal wishes that all might be free.
6. Observe with friend and foes the ordinary rules of courtesy.
7. Perform regular service for others and the world.
8. Refrain from violence of fist, tongue and heart.
9. Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health.
10. Follow the directions of the movement leaders and of the captains on demonstrations.

The Five Principles of Nonviolence
1. Non-violent resistance is not a method for cowards. It does resist. The nonviolent resister is just as strongly opposed to the evil against which he protests, as is the person who uses violence. His method is passive or non aggressive in the sense that he is not physically aggressive toward his opponent, but his mind and emotions are always active, constantly seeking to persuade the opponent that he is mistaken. This method is passive physically but strongly active spiritually; it is non aggressive physically but dynamically aggressive spiritually.
2. Nonviolent resistance does not seek to defeat or humiliate the opponent, but to win his friendship and understanding. The nonviolent resister must often express his protest through noncooperation or boycotts, but he realizes that noncooperation and boycotts are not ends themselves; they are merely means to awaken a sense of moral shame in the opponent.
3. The attack is directed against forces of evil rather than against persons who are caught in those forces. It is a struggle between justice and injustice, between the forces of light and the forces of darkness.
4. Nonviolent resistance avoids not only external physical violence, but also internal violence of spirit. At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.
5. Nonviolence is based on the conviction that the universe is on the side of justice. It is the deep faith in the future that allows a nonviolent resister to accept suffering without retaliation. The nonviolent resister knows that in his struggle for justice, he has a cosmic companionship.Make Your Pledge

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did some of the most amazing things a man has ever done. He brought the love of Christ into his work and his life. He wanted everyone to be given the same and equal rights. He wanted Equal Justice not Social Justice. He wanted every person in America to be judged by their character. Yes judged. He knew that the civil rights movement would be judged harsh by the media. He knew that if their was any violence from the civil rights movement they would be looked down on. When MLK and the civil rights movement started the media was very hard on them. Almost like what they are doing to the TEA Partiers. If we want to win over the hearts and minds of Americans we need to keep being nonviolent and peaceful. We need to walk in the same shoes as MLK and the civil rights movement walked. Take the same pledge of nonviolence as MLK and the civil rights movement. And thank God he sent Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his amazing love of what is right.

Now look to your right at the pictures of the counter protesters and tell me who looks peaceful? We are being judged by what they do but we are winning the hearts of Americans. Keep up the great work my friends.

ACORN CEO Praises Socialism, Calls Tea Parties 'Bowel Movements'

Former ACORN head Bertha Lewis told a group of the Young Democratic Socialists on that they should "do everything [they] can" to build their organization, and then insisted that our times are worse than internment under the Japanese and the years of Jim Crow laws (h/t Morgan Richmond at BigGovernment):

Any of these groups that says, "I'm young, I'm Democratic, and I'm a socialist," is okay with me. You know that's no light thing to do -- to actually say, I'm a socialist. You've got to know, actually, we are living in a time that's going to dwarf the McCarthy era. We are living in a time that'll dwarf the internment era of internment during World War II. We are right now in a time that is going to dwarf the era of Jim Crow and segregation.

They are coming and they are coming after you, and they are going to be brutal and oppressive. They've already shown it. ... This is not rhetoric or hyperbole -- this is real. ... This tea party so-called movement -- a bowel-movement in my estimation -- and this blatant uncovering and ripping off the mask of racism...

Bertha's group lost its congressional funding after videos were released depicting actual ACORN workers offering advice on how to hide income from prostitution from the government as well as how to lie to get mortgages. This video demonstrates a contrast to rhetoric about alleged fear-mongering among Tea Party protesters.

Happy Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. This is a good time to talk about things we can do to make earth a better place. Try making a garden. It doesn't have to be big. Even an apple tree or cherry trees are a good way to keep the food close to you. I just planted my greens, radish, onion and potato. I transplanted both my raspberry and strawberry's. Just have fun with the garden. You will love the end product. Go to the farmers market and buy local produce. Mulch your leaves in the garden or grass. And if you want buy some land and let it stay wild. Or go out and buy a gun, a hunting and fishing license. There are taxes on those items that go towards buying property for the wild plants and animals. In fact it is those hunters and fishermen and women that gave us most of the property we have now to enjoy. These properties are managed for for harvest and non-harvest animals. Even if you do not hunt buy a license as it is going to a good cause. And don't forget to thank the people that are doing more for the environment then any other group.  Thank a hunter or a fishermen for it is they that are funding the American stewardship. And don't be fooled by cutting CO2 taxing. A Cap and Tax would do little for our air quality. It would hurt our economy and it would push us into a deeper recession. How would that help the planet? Forget Cap and Trade and buy a gun. Don't forget to buy ammo as that also has a heavy tax that will buy up more land for our wilds to stay wild. And don't forget to thank God for this beautiful planet to live on. And maybe we need to also remember to take care of what God gave us and that He is the one in finale charge over Earth.

These Libs Lid Ed Are Out Of Control

America The Angry

Although it’s equally likely that they took Deutsch off the air just because he’s annoying and not very good. I especially like how he moderates a discussion about anger in America by raising his voice and commanding people to stop talking.
Deutsch was supposed to guest-host for David Shuster (remember him?) all week, but the NYT’s Media Decoder says:
A weeklong anchoring stint on MSNBC by Donny Deutsch ended abruptly on Wednesday, and four people briefed on the decision said the cancellation stemmed from an unflattering mention of that channel’s No. 1 anchor, Keith Olbermann, a day earlier…
The four people briefed on MSNBC’s decision said Mr. Olbermann’s anger about the segment prompted the cancellation of the weeklong “America the Angry” series.
If you think it’s kind of ironic to get pissed off about being called angry, you’re wrong!!!
In a reply to an e-mail message from The New York Times, Mr. Olbermann said: “Your account is entirely untrue. Your e-mail is the first I am hearing of any of this. What I know of what happened is this: Phil Griffin phoned me yesterday enraged at what was on that show and I didn’t disagree with him.” Mr. Griffin is the president of MSNBC.
How dare you call him angry? Maybe you’re the one who’s angry, ever thing of that? Huh?
Olbermann is off the rest of the week for a routine colonoscopy. At press time, it was undetermined how this will differ from his nightly show.
(Hat tip: Hot Air)
P.S. Mike Riggs says, “Mr. Olbermann has a very fascinating history of acting like a petulant child.” They don’t call Olby “Bathtub Boy” for nothin’!

What Is Your Opinion On This Video?

Regardless of your opinion of DADT, what you’re about to watch is… not even remotely surprising, really.

The media was pushed back from Lafayette Park to keep them from filming a protest against DADT: true. But it could have been anything. DADT, the GWOT, rampaging deficits, ballooning unemployment, religious fundamentalism masquerading as global warming, the general expansion of the nanny state… it doesn’t matter. The White House didn’t want it filmed, so it didn’t get filmed. And the media got caught up in the implacable bum’s rush away from the scene of the dissent. I really loved the bit about halfway through, when some generic media guy complains on his phone: “It’s one thing if they push the public back, but not to let the media film is just ridiculous.” No, it’s not. It makes perfect sense, considering that the administration neither respects the media on a fundamental level, nor expects the media to ever do anything in response to slights.
And, really: is the Obama administration wrong? How can anyone who lacks self-respect expect others to respect him? What do you think about what has become of our country in such a short time?

Obama Gets Heckled By A Left Wing Gay And The Media Is Where On It?

Obama said he agrees that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" needs to be repealed. "When you got an ally like Barbara Boxer and you've got an ally like me who are standing for the same thing, then you don't know exactly why you have to holler because we already hear you," President Obama said to the hecklers. Now what bothers me most is if a right winger had done this it would be all over the media and blogs. I guess it's OK to heckle Democrats now that the left say nothing to their own. Hypocrites.
