Why Are The Left-Wing Doing This After The AZ Shooting? OPEN THREAD

It appears that the Democratic Party is using this shooting to limit our right, again.  Is taking away guns and our free speech the way to go after this?  I'd like an honest debate about what the Democratic Party might have coming our way.                                                                                                                                                     Read this:by Meredith Jessup Meredith Jessup

Just hours after six were killed and 14 others injured in Saturday’s horrific shooting incident in Arizona, politicians 2,300 miles away in Washington, D.C. began plotting a legislative response.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., one of Congress’ fiercest gun control advocates, is looking to strike while the iron is hot. “My staff is working on looking at the different legislation fixes that we might be able to do and we might be able to introduce as early as tomorrow,” McCarthy told Politico Sunday. Rep. McCarthy said that she plans to meeting with House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to see “if we can work something through” this week.
At the same time, another New York Democrat is blaming the pro-gun community for Saturday’s violent shooting. In a statement Sunday, Rep. Carolyn Maloney exclaimed that “guns kill” and that “those who glamorize gun play or worship gun ownership do no service to humanity.”
“Democracy triumphs. The fundamental wisdom that has long distinguished our nation and has led her to greatness resides in our unwavering commitment to settle our differences with ballots, not bullets,” she said. “While it is too early to come to any conclusions about the causes or consequences of yesterday’s tragic events, it is never too late to reflect on lessons we have learned from earlier such tragedies, and take them to heart.”
While Maloney and McCarthy are focusing their efforts on restricting access to guns, Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, is proposing new limits on free speech. On Sunday, Brady told CNN that he plans to introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or violent against a federal official.                                                           UPDATE:"Checkpoint," the controversial Nicholson Baker novel about a man who wants to kill President G.W.Bush.

  2. Chris, you can understand that people are upset and that they mistakenly place the blame on the right for some of the things said and down since before the election since 2008.

They are venting and i think the right would be wise to weather the storm and just continue as usual. Any defensiveness will only encourage the behavior. wait till they get through their anger and then talk openely and will a soft heart to them about how to fix America and how its individuals who mess it up.

But just like the NY snowplow thing people will find groups to blame instead of individuals. You know that, you did it yourself. Can you say you didn't want to use the snowplow incident to violate one of our rights?

Thats why we need to come together and continue to polarize.

  3. And by our rights, i mean to collectively bargain. A right under the NLRA.

  5. Joe why is it only "venting" when the left-wing and Democrats act like this? Did you see the movie and books that came out about killing Bush? Was that just venting as well? Why do you have such high tolorance for what the left-wing and Democrats do? It just seems as dishonest as you can get. We've seen the protests and violent rhetoric from the left and Democratic Party since Bush was in office until now but for some reason the Tea Party and the Republican Party get's branded by the left and Democratic Party as dangerous and violent. Joe the right have been weathering the storm. Why is it we have to do all the weathering? Joe one is a UNION and the other is NOT. If a union can collectivly bargain and also collectivley slow down then collectively they need to get fired. The unions can't change the 'united we stand' and then bail on unity when they start to fall. That apples and oranges and you know it Joe. I'm sure if the unions loose some of their income due to pay cuts they will blame me for their violent reactions. Why is it the left blame everyone but the lunatic that did the actual shooting? It seems to be the Democrats MO. They did the same thing when JFK was murdered. They went after TX,the right-wing,the Republican Party...just like they are doing right now. And just like JFK and Giffords they were killed by a crazy psycho, nothing more and nothing less. But the Democratic Party never seem to not politicize a crisis to their advantage.

  6. Once again Joe has the best way to weather this storm. I agree sit back and lets see what the SUSPECT in this horrible act is all about. I am not thrilled at sitting back BUT once again for now that is the prudent coarse of action.

Im sure, maybe not, that MSM has investigated the SUSPECT thourghly and that alot of his actions will be explained. We have NOT been given much of anything on his lifestyle or history and I beleive there will lie most the answers to this HORRIBLE act!

  7. I've been watching msnbc,Ed Schultz and Keith Olbermann and they are still pushing the idea that this is all caused by the right-wingers.They make some great points but have left out all the facts that this blog and others have in them. If his last name were ‘Muhammed’ or ‘Martinez’ and it were a Republican that were shot, instead of a Democrat, the shoe would be on the other foot. He was a conspiracist, anti-government, pro-gold, and anti-immigrant – which describes what, 80%-90% of Glenn Beck’s audience?

Look, if there was NO inferred connection, why would Palin be backtracking… I mean ‘SURVEYORS SYMBOLS’?!??!

  8. This weekend we all were horrified to hear the news of the violent shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and several others in Arizona.

One thing that surprised us was how many in the news media and liberal political figures and organizations immediately launched into an attack on the tea party movement - assigning blame for the shooting to our grass roots, Constitutionalist movement in general, and Gov. Sarah Palin in particular.

    Friends, this is outrageous.

It is quite clear that liberals are trying to exploit this shooting for their own political benefit, and they used deception and dishonesty to try and smear all of us and our beliefs.

You know what the truth is? The truth is that the shooter, Jared Loughner is the one responsible for this atrocity. But liberals are trying to place the blame on society for embracing the tea party movement.

We here at the Tea Party Express find that disgusting and revolting.

This isn't a new concept for liberals. Let us harken back to the words of Ronald Reagan when he called out the Left for similar behavior in years past:

"We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions."

    - Ronald Reagan

If Jared Loughner does have a definable political ideology it is that of a far Left anarchist. Loughner is a mentally disturbed young man who sought his ideological fulfillment from the Communist Manifesto - hardly the Bible of the Tea Party movement. He posted videos of flag burning on his YouTube channel - again, antics more consistent with Blame America First liberals, not the tea party movement.

In fact, Loughner's interactions with Congresswoman Giffords date all the way back to 2007 when he confronted her with a question he had, and received an answer he found unacceptable. You read that right - Loughner's interactions with Congresswoman Giffords date back to 2007 - well before the tea party movement had even been launched.

This was all an effort to try and demean us and diminish support for the tea party movement, since the Left could not beat us at the ballot box. Sadly way too many people in the media cooperated with this smear campaign.

The media didn't tell you that the left-wing website, DailyKos, had targeted Congresswoman Giffords, putting a BULLSEYE on her, did they? But that's just what happened.

Instead they tried to blame Gov. Sarah Palin. Friends, their hypocrisy and double standards are appalling.

This kind of media bias is a large part of why our tea party movement exists - because the voices of We The People have not been represented fairly by the news media, and listened to by our elected officials.

Well guess what: to those liberals in the news media and on the political Left who think you can silence us, you are wrong! Your efforts to try and smear us and shut us up will fail.

We have nothing to do with this awful, tragic event in Arizona. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords and the victims and families of this massacre.

But we will still fight just as passionately for this country we love, and the vision of our Founding Fathers as outlined by the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

We're taking our country back through the ballot box and in the public square - through peaceful means. And we will prevail, because our ideas and ideals are stronger than the scare/smear/defame tactics of the leftists we face.

We ask you to please stand with the Tea Party Express and show your support for our efforts.
