Open Thread:Guess Which Major TV Host Thinks Obama Is Not Really A Christian?

Mediaite:
When someone says they don’t think President Barack Obama is actually a Christian, the expectation would be that they think he’s secretly a Muslim. Not Bill Maher. On tonight’s Real Time, in the process of arguing that Obama’s not really a centrist politically, Maher also revealed that he doesn’t think Obama’s actually Christian, either, but rather a secular humanist.
The belief Maher apparently holds – that Obama isn’t actually a Christian, but merely pretends to be one to keep up appearances for the sake of his political career – strikes us as one of the most cynical things anyone could possibly believe about Obama.

  1. And his viewers probably don't care if he is or not. I feel the same why, that O' isn't a Christian. But I really can't figure out what he believes in, spiritually.
I know for one thing, he is a muslim sympathizer.

  2. Being it's an open thread I have to inquire;

Since when does a third-rate 'comedian' on a poorly-rated cable program become known as a "major TV host"?

Did I mis the latest Nielson's?

  3. He does seem to side with Islam, while he sides against Christians and Jews. I don't think he's Muslim even though 8 out of 10 Muslims think he's Muslim.

    Obama’s Religion: Is He a Muslim, A Christian? http://www.savingtherepublic.com/What_is_Obamas_Religion.html

In a nutshell he is practicing christianity his “…‘Christianity’ is based on Liberation Theology. We know this because Obama himself has said he has sat in Rev. Wrights church for over 20yrs. We know for a fact Rev Wright preaches Liberation Theology (aka Black Theology). “

  5. The socialists are celebrating.

One such group, ANSWER, issued a statement Friday in response to the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Not surprisingly, the organization’s statement gave Van Jones-style praise to the “revolution from below.”

See our previous report on ANSWER.

The statement, which includes three parts, decried American “imperialism,“ praised the ”youth-led uprising,” and continued the group’s assault on Israeli, or as it calls the country, the “Zionist regime.” Highlights of the remarks are below (all emphasis added).

    It starts:

The Egyptian people have done it. A revolution from below, developed without a fully prepared plan and without a formal leadership, has succeeded in forcing the ouster of Mubarak. Even though it was a genuinely spontaneous uprising, the people developed leadership and organization in the course of the struggle itself. This great uprising by the people of Egypt has shaken the existing global order of imperialism. After all of their sacrifice, millions of Egyptians today are celebrating. All great revolutions become a festival of those who have endured oppression. Each participant knows that the revolution is the deepest expression of the power of the people.

Just like President Obama this week, the group also praised the youth for their role in the ousting:

The steadfast determination of the youth-led uprising coupled with the dramatic entrance of the Egyptian working class into the mass movement radically changed the relationship of forces.

    ANSWER noticed Obama’s youth-praise:

Having armed and financed the Mubarak dictatorship’s 30-year-long war against the Egyptian people, the U.S. government abruptly shifted its position in a last-minute effort to prevent U.S. imperialist interests in Egypt going down with Mubarak’s doomed ship. As the regime seemed to be crumbling in the face of the uprising and the mass strike wave, Obama appeared on national television yesterday to announce that the U.S. government saluted the youth-led uprising.

The group goes on to blast the U.S.:

For now, the Egyptian military has assumed the power in Egypt. This is the preferred plan of the U.S. government. The continued presence of Mubarak was accelerating the militancy and radicalism of the uprising. Suddenly, as a consequence of the entrance of the people in a genuine uprising, Mubarak turned into a liability rather than a valued asset. The main goal of the U.S. government now will be to find a way to sustain the authority of the Egyptian military high command, which has functioned as a client for the past 30 years. [...] A great victory has been secured. But the institutions of the dictatorship remain and behind them stand the Pentagon and the CIA. Undoubtedly, a new stage in the struggle will quickly unfold. The opening of political space for revolutionary and working-class forces to organize is of monumental importance.

  6. Gov. John Kasich and Republican lawmakers made it clear this week that big changes are coming to the public employees collective bargaining law as the state looks to close an $8 billion budget gap. “All of this is an effort to reduce the cost of government to reduce the tax burden on families and job creators,” said Rob Nichols, spokesman for Kasich.

Kasich said Thursday if lawmakers don’t dismantle public employees collective bargaining then he will. “All this is rooted in job creation.”

It’s a fight shaping up with unions in states across the country, particularly those with Republican-dominated governments that are in fiscal trouble. Indiana, Idaho and Tennessee all have legislation in the works that would scale back or eliminate collective bargaining.

A study by the Buckeye Institute, a conservative think tank, found Ohio’s public workers made more than private sector counterparts Liberal counterpart, Policy Matters Ohio, released a report Thursday that found Ohio’s public employees are paid less than those in the private sector. More than 300,000 public employees in Ohio belong to unions, including teachers, police, firefighters, municipal employees and state workers.

Nothing like a budget deficit to justify an attack on unions, hey, John. The story really didn't need to identify you as a repub. That much would be obvious from your actions. We need to overthrow conservatives and do what the Egyptians did, here in this country! Social Justice over failed capitalism! The time has come to take back what is ours.

ALGIERS — Thousands of police in riot gear blocked off the center of Algeria's capital on Saturday and stopped government opponents from staging a protest march that sought to emulate Egypt's popular revolt .

Small groups of demonstrators angry at President Abdelaziz Bouteflika gathered in May 1 Square in the center of Algiers shouting "Bouteflika out!" They waved newspaper front pages reporting Friday's overthrow of Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak.

But riot police hemmed them in, stopping them from carrying out a plan to march through the city. Other protesters trying to reach the square found their way blocked and at least one of the protest organizers was arrested.

"It is a state of siege," said Abdeslam Ali Rachedi, a university lecturer and government opponent.

Saying those who didn’t see it coming must have been in a “coma,” Gov. Scott Walker unveiled sweeping legislation Friday that would severely curtail public employee rights and dramatically change the way the state negotiates with unions.

Officials alerted the Wisconsin State Employees Union on Friday that expired collective bargaining agreements would be canceled March 13. State unions have been operating under the terms of those previous contracts, an arrangement that can be terminated with 30 days’ notice.

The news came on the same day the governor unveiled a budget repair bill that would remove nearly all collective bargaining rights for nearly all public employees in the state and make it easier for employers to fire workers who engage in some form of labor unrest.

To union leaders, and many Democratic lawmakers, the governor’s moves represent an all-out effort to end the influence of organized labor in Wisconsin.

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats yet they are still POOR!

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln >

And...Mr Obama, you are no Abe Lincoln!

Liberals say these cities are this way because they are black-cities, rather then Progressive-cities. Why is that?

  13. Wow, how did Obama get into a talking points blast about mayors?

    Personally i love these things.

Somewhere there is hope for the lonely conservative living in his mom's basement because he has a little creativity. Now if he could put down his wad of kleenex and work on using that creativity to help the world instead of coming up with little talking points for the rightwing zombies he might be okay.

and i say to Anon, move out your mom's basement, see what sunlight is all about. The world is a wonderous place and i swear that your podunk little town isn't filled with rightwing fundementalists who want to make the laws based on their religious beliefs. Well i can't swear to that, you might have conservatives in your town. Never mind them. They eat at 5 and are in bed by 9.

You can find someone who shares your lust for life who doesn't dream of the day when America can be like it was when at 10 they were out plowing the field behind Betsy the horse. You might like Al though. He's a nice guy. (wits have gone to glory if u know what i mean.) helluva nice guy.

  14. Joe Sometimes we can LEARN from PAST mistakes and if you look at that Citizens who reside there have NO hope unless you call POVERTY hope. Comparing the PAST to the PRESENT gives You a gauge on Progress or Failure. Would you say the Politicans in those 10 cities Succeeded or Failed. Most importantly WHY? These Politicans have made Citizens DEPENDENT on Government and on this issue Government has Failed. All politicans should be ashamed of what they have done to Citizens that just want a fair Chance Education and ability to move up. Taking their Pride for Dependancy has and will not help them succeed.

Regarding Nobamas religon I could care less. I am concerned with his policies and ideaology and on that we aint close!

  15. Al, you can make such promising points, but then reality goes and gets in your way. See the simple fact is that neither the left nor the right actually want to eliminate entitlement or earmarks they just want to move it to their voters.

    lets cut farm subsidies.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Joe that would be a start BUT then what? Accountability of politicans would be a start BUT the special interest groups Wall street, Unions,AMA,ABA will always get the ear of politicans.
Ear Marks may not ALL be bad BUT when there used as BRIBE the line is Crossed.
Entitlements are needed also but not to the POINT of a way of LIFE.
I just think Big Government is the problem and it does appear Politicans for the most part want BIG Government, they just use different doors to enter the Building. Citizens including me have let Government/Politicans do what they want for to long. Hopefully starting with small steps we may be able to undo the damage. If not ideaology wont make a difference we will be like any other failed Republic, destroyed from the inside and thats a shame to say the least!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Al, we will be like any other republic, monarchy, oligarchy etc. We will eventually fail from the inside out. I see that as inevitable. My reasoning is simple.

Neither of the two major parties are willing to accept what they are and compromise and the the latest and so-called greatest group the Tea Party is making self-denial the Mission statement.

Look at Chris and the other tea baggers here. They rant about loving the constitution and yet can't figure out that they continually advance policies that respect a religion.

I.E. attacking the thought of Sharia Law yet finding it okay to base laws on the Ten Commandments. What could be a more obvious attack on the Constitution than respecting Christianity.

As for the denial aspect, look at the discussion on the Florida district court decision in which Tea Party people defend the decision as correct because they use the writings of our founders (the federalist papers) and yet when the question of "separation of church and state" comes up the same people often deny that because its not directly written into the Constitution although it is in the writings of the Founders (the same Founders as in the federalist papers).

So we will fail not because we don't want to, but because we all will hold on to our denials to the end.
