Jews, lesbians, gay men and Caucasians, among others, are all more frequently the target of hate crimes, FBI records show. Reported anti-Muslim crimes have declined over recent years, though they still exceed what occurred prior to the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
"We see hate crimes generally go in spurts, and are often in relation to international or domestic events," Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Friday.
In 2008, 105 hate crime incidents against Muslims were reported nationwide. There were 10 times as many incidents that were recorded as anti-Jewish during the same year, the most recent for which figures are available.
The number of anti-Muslim hate crimes leaped to a record 481 in 2001, apparently prompted by the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. It hasn't been nearly that high since.
Today in Kabul, hundreds gathered to protest. Getting a jump on things, they burned an effigy of the Pastor Terry Jones.
And now Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in the Afghanistan, is saying that the church’s plan could endanger the lives of American troops in the region. He told the Wall Street Journal:
“It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.”The protest in Kabul today might be a foreshadowing.
Even so, the Pastor Jones and his congregants at the Dove World Outreach center plan to follow through with their plan despite the plea from Gen. Petraeus.
“We understand the General’s concerns. We are sure that his concerns are legitimate.” Nonetheless, he added, “We must send a clear message to the radical element of Islam. We will no longer be controlled and dominated by their fears and threats.”Now lets take a look at this from all perspectives. I don't agree with the church in FL burning the Koran. But we need to look at it this way as well. That church has the right to burn the Koran just like people have had the right to defile Christian things. That doesn't make it right. The Muslims are asking us to be tolerant of them and their religion when they wont do the same for others. How dangerous is a religion that threatens the welfare of Americans for one church burning the Koran? Are we to tiptoe around this religion while they do what they please? Why is the media putting the blame on the church for the actions of Islam? The Muslims have been defiling Christians,Jews and American for decades. Just look at the reaction of these jehad's. According to the Obama admin we are not at war with Islam but Islam is at war with us. Get your head out of you asses and realize the dangers of Islam to all that are not Muslim.
